Las Palapas in San Antonio will hold an Okie Burrito eating contest on August 18 awarding $1,000 to the winner. Weekly qualifiers on Saturdays will award $150 and a spot in the finals to the winners.

    That’s decent—-being able to get a little coin for winning a qualifier. Otherwise, someone can qualify for Finals and not receive a thing in compensation if he doesn’t finish in the money.

    Rhonda, I agree. I’ve seen a couple more recent contests with paying qualifers. I hope it’s a long term trend.
