    This must have been another one of the IFOCE don’t tell anyone we chose you for the show secrets/ . They don;t want to cause friction amongst the eaters. Pat was long overdue for some publicity outside of O&A . Here is one that certainly deserves it

    Actually, I was just there to watch the taping after I saw it posted here on eatfeats and they let me sit at the competitive eaters table to support Crazy Legs and Tim Janis ..my fat body in the promo just makes it look like I had a bigger role.

    A season opening celebration for MLE, and only CL, X, Pat represent the eaters…Rick the MGR and wife are there…why in the heck were no other eaters there? That was an insult to all the other eaters. Rick (great guy, but) is not even a MLE eater? Loads of MLE eaters were within easy traveling distance to “celebrate” the new season, but were they allowed to show up, or asked??? NOOOOOOOOO….that was almost enough to make me want to quit – thanks for the usual rude slap in the face

    Say what, as long as they can get away with showcasing those two for all media events without an uprise from other IFOCE members , they will do it all the time. Email Rich Shea about this.I doubt George will respond. Either one of two things will happen. He will ignore your grievance or reply back with something short and snotty.

    Say What , Crazy Legs and Janus have signed contracts as permanent reps for anything pertaining to media within the IFOCE. If that was not the case then the Sheas or one Shea put together a gentleman agreement with Crazy Legs and Janus a long time ago. We have heard the same redundant trash about how good looking they are and how eloquent Crazy Legs speaks and how it is virtually impossible to ask anyone other than those two to represent the IFOCE in that fashion. Can they get away with it while hurting others? They sure can. There is nothing in writing in your IFOCE contract that entitles you or for that matter guarantees media appearances . That is why they are able to pick and choose who they desire without having to worry about legalities. The worst they have to deal with is bitching by email and most of the time the emails fall on deaf ears. Until the members decide to take a stance on stipulation and demand that so and so appearances be included in the contract , then deal with it. That will never happen because the majority of IFOCE members could care less about hollywood as the primary concern is eating and nothing more.

    CL is a very good speaker, X is a good (make that great) eater who rarely gives a good comment. His part in “The Science of Speed Eating” for instance, was only interesting because of the experiments going on around him.
    When you get to “practice” 50,000 times like CL has, you get better. Oh, and a chance to sit in the audience is not the same as an real invite to be a part of the show, and possible get paid, like i’ll bet those two were. I don’t complain rarely, if ever, but, yes, this really struck a nerve.
    That was not “publicity” for Pat, it just made him look like a huge deaf mute, who, for all the TV audience knew, was a bodyguard or something. A really low moment in MLE history, and a classic example of how they feel about us, their eaters. We not only butter their bread, we eat it for them. This time, they shoved it in our other hole.

    I doubt either of them got paid but X is loaded he doesn’t meed the money. Complain to R.Shea @sheacommunication.com . It was his project and the first two names that come to his head when an offer presents itself on the table is CL and X . Of course it is not fair. If enough eaters decided to jump ship you see how fast your televsion appearances would suddenly increase

    Hey, you know how you get invited to the best contests and television appearances? You eat more than the people that consistently get invited. So, if you can’t eat as much as CL and X, for example, quit complaining. If you can eat more than a specific eater attending an event, and if you were denied an invitation to that event, then you have a legit beef. So, the next person who bitches because they couldn’t go to an event or tv show, back it up by showing the many records and contests that made them the better choice. Here’s how it works: A. Become a good eater; Plus B. Put up a few records and wins; Equals C., Top eating and television appearances. It’s competitive eating folks, not competitive TV star — the eating should come first.

    Say what … the only NY eater who wasn’t there that beat CL is Badlands, and I’d guess that he was asked and wasn’t available. I know everybody thinks that doing these shows is just a fun time, but ususally these shows offer little or no money and can be a pain. While most people like to complain “I wanna be a tv star too,” I think anybody associated with CE should be happy that CL and X are willing to take time out of their lives to promote CE. Believe me, they’re not getting that much out of being on “Cake Boss.” Yet, I’ll say it again, if someone wants to do these types of stuff, the formula is simple: “A. Become a good eater; Plus B. Put up a few records and wins; Equals C., Top eating and television appearances.”

    Badlands is one of the cornerstones of the sport and his rapping is entertaining. Legs is a born entertainer and X picks up the eating for him. These guys also live in NYC and show up. Who out there would be better to do the PR outside of maybe Pat? I mean out of the top eaters most of them are boring or you can hardly understand them. Joey and Bob can eat like a monster but they are dull, Sony and Takeru I love them both but they can barely do interviews and Takeru lives in Japan. That lease Hall, Erik, and Brown to round it out and I have never seen any of them do anything all that entertaining.

And since you are going to be the next eating sensation, I can’t wait to see you put on better performances than CL, X and Badlands at eating contests and tv shows. But, you know what, I have a feeling I’m going to be waiting for quite some time.

    The original point of all of this is that there was allegedly a “season-opening” celebration, which, it appears, only CL and X were invited to. Pat was there – dunno if he had an official invite, and Rick was invited (coming from his facebook page). That already is where the “insult” starts. Rick’s a great dude, but, he;s not even an MLE eater. Did Badlands get an invite? Did Shredder? did BB? did any other eater get invited? There are ranked eaters, unranked eaters all over this area within an hour or two, that would have liked to show up, just to enjoy the “celebration”, and not be stars of the show. Kinda like the way they spend their own time and money traveling all over the freakin country to be a part of all the contests.

    Why don’t you just have CL and X only show up for Nathan’s, and for the “running of the torch” for Krystal. Why not fly them to all the media opportunities if they are so freakin wonderful, and the rest of us are incoherent monkeys not capable of speaking in public. It’s not so much the money, or the two seconds of fame, it’s the implied insult that nobody else is good enough, or “worthy” enough to get invited to a MLE celebration.

    I’ve never heard of any other organization that makes it’s members sign contracts, doesn’t pay them anything (for the most part), expects total loyalty, and then is surprized and upset when people do local, tiny, unpublicized eating challenges for a few bucks. Then they are surprised that the same non-paid eaters would be upset that they weren’t invited to an “official” celebration.
    It was a bush league move from what is supposed to be an elite organization

I assume that you must be a new eater considering that you were shocked or surprised that this injustice took place. Knowing these guys for several years i dont think its a priority for Janus if hollywood passes on him becoming the next Elvis. Even though he has the matinee idol persona , his priorty is eating and not so much entertaining. On the other hand Conti uses the media gigs as a tool to further his career as a writer. I figure i would throw my two cents in while risking adversity from the peanut gallery

    The folks that have a real problem with preponderance of media opportunities going to a select few are clearly in the minority. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough eaters to merit 50 placings in the rankings.

    The IFOCE runs a business and, as such, not only have every right to promote the business as they see fit, but the powers that be are doing nothing discrepant from the bounds of the contract eaters have with them.

    Again, if eaters don’t like the way things are, all they have to do is refrain from re-signing. No one is holding a gun to eaters’ heads, forcing them to stay on.

    IFOCE actions might, at times, seem cold, unfair, and/or inequitable among the eaters, and maybe they are, but their first interest is the welfare of the business.

    It’s unreal how many long-time IFOCE members still complain, as if this is something new. Evidently, things must not be too bad —- not bad enough to preclude re-signing.

    (I’m putting this in the “Abuse Room.”)

    If you want to make the business better, keep your employees happy. Treat them fairly, and don’t play favorites. Take the complaints here, listen to them, and attempt to correct the problem.
    I hate when people say “there’s no gun to your head”, instead of trying to make the situation better. Arrogance breeds contempt. Again, Rhonda, you miss the point – this was allegedly a MLE celebration, but only for a select few. Your comments were idiotic, when things go wrong, people should complain!

    It is more than understandable why the Shea’s continue to use Crazylegs & Janus for most media opportunities.

    There is no better commentator including the Shea’s themselves, than Crazylegs. He also has a distinctive look, & has improved on his eating abilities.

    Additionally, he lives in NYC, where most media opportunities are, has flexible employment & has shown as much, if not more loyalty to the Shea’s, than even thay may have toward each other.

    Janus also lives in NYC, has a good gimmick, flexible employment, has become an elite eater, & interacts well w/Crazylegs.

    With all that said, it would be nice to see other eaters on occasion, so you don’t hear the same stories, have the jealousies, etc., even if they bomb.

    Joe , i dont mind when you critisize my eating ability but when you question my my lack of credibility as an entertainer or virtually ignore it, thats where i have the problem with you. Not that your opinion means shit to me or anyone else but i have some experience behind the camera and im not referring to BB corner. I took up acting for a brief period when i was younger at the insistence of a close family member. Did i get anywhere with it ? Not really, I was considered for a few roles many years ago but nothing came about . It is a very cut throat tough biz. It was more about granting my grandfathers wish that i become an actor because acting does run in the family (abe vigoda for EX) My goal was to become an internist or a pro basketball player more than anything else, I know how to communicate with the public in front of a camera. I might not be the most eloquent speaker that ever graced the networks but i can carry a talk show for more than an hour where others would fold in 5 min. If you deny any of what i just mentioned , then its obvious that you live in state of denial and take great pleasure in slamming my credentials any way you see fit. You have no biz critiquing anyone. You have the right to your opinion but know very little about me and how my capabilities communicating with the general public. The only reason im responding to you and not the other assholes that post “Brian you suck your show stinks, wouldnt waste my time tuning in blah blah is because you speak and write with some intelligence . I would have to question that intelligence when it comes to your limited viewpoints on who is right and who is wrong for the media. Yes Crazy Legs and Tim are great for the roles. However if not for the Shea’s you probably would not see them appearing on natiional tv.nor anywhere for that mater. Legs and Janus without IFOCE would be getting more of the dont call us we;ll call you scenario . Not a knock on them personally but i know the business and even with the good looks and eloquent voices, without Shea communications as the hookup, they would be emailing their resumes and getting little in return, I have stressed on countless occasions that i myself can be convincing if called upon. You try writing 26 scripts for an internet talk show. See how far you get. Regardless of the content see how far you get before you decide to pack it in.     I think G Joe hits alot of the issues I was thinking. While it’s always nice to see other Eaters get a chance at exposure, I dont blame the Sheas for going with people you can count on. Lets face it, most of us are alitte bit crazy to even be involved in CE. With crazy comes all the baggage and unreliability that some of us have. I cant even imagine how many times the Sheas have been burned by these kind of things.

    People fail to show up because they are drunk

    This is a mid-week promotion that is also mid day and in NYC. I’d go with CLC & X every time because they are willing to be flexible with their other commitments. They will be there early and do every interview, be relevant, engaging and funny. They each have some visual schtick and can eat.

    Brian does have some creative chops and I think I would LOVE to see him do some color commentary on one of these packaged deals like the Spike show. Give him the mic backstage and ask some interesting questions of the Eaters before and after the contest of the Eaters. Have him at the table doing technique analysis.

    and honestly if you want to be involved in some of the media, then you should ASK the Sheas directly and not complain here anonymously. How the hell are they supposed to know you’re interested? You signed up as an eater not on camera talent.

    Me? I’m always interested in doing Media, but dont begrudge anyone who gets facetime on their own.

    That’s fairly accurate and pretty well stated SB. It comes down to basic values, which Legs and Tim both have. Their talent and recognisability are underpinned by reliability and loyalty. They’re fun-loving adults who act their ages; they can roll with the punches and 1-2 combination jabs that life might throw at them once in awhile.

    They accept responsibility for their own lot in life.
