Limerick.Patch.com has an article about Rick "The Manager" Russo serving as Stephanie Torres' manager. Russo had an Angry Birds themed float and Notorious Bob Shoudt was a member of his entourage. Shoudt will appear on a segment on 6ABC tonight about Philadelphia area competitive eaters.

Now remember, this is local media and even this reporter was less than enamored with the Wing Bowl. In fact, the competition was treated somewhat as an aside to the floats. Several quotes I do find interesting: “Let’s just say it’s not the classiest of events Philadelphia has to offer, checking out a recap of last year’s Wing Bowl.” And, “Despite Kobayashi’s fame and popularity in the competitive eating world, Philadelphia did not treat him very well. Chants of “USA! USA! USA!” resonated in the hallways before the contest. He was also booed heavily when he entered the arena and when he won, and as I walked the floors of the Wells Fargo Center, I heard comments from viewers such as “I want my money back” and “This event is fixed.” Was it fixed? I’ve heard rumors about Wing Bowl’s reputation, but it’s not really my place to judge.” Here in lies Angelo Cataldi’s problem now. Credibility with the event. If local reporter’s now question the validity of the contest, you can imagine what national more savvy reporters feel about this sham of a contest. As a promotional event — flop. Next year, and many people forget this after Joey dominated, it was not MLE who said they wouldn’t show. Angelo banned out of towners because they can’t beat top eaters. Expect the same this year.

FOS you can zero in on anything you hear and take any and every thing out of context. Wing Bowl 20 was the best and will always be the best. You are just a wet blanket dude.

FOS fails to see two things,1-wing bowl is not sport it is entertainment and 2- entertainment is not always classy. As long as there is a sell out, 1000’s of listeners and the sponsors are happy this “flop” is a resounding success. He must know this event is a few pen strokes away wrestling and next year our national pride will fill the arena the see if our boys (and or girls) can bring the wing bowl title back to our shores {even though it’s living in NY}.

Kobi got a $10,000 appearance fee. He won $20,000+ in prizes and it was still fixed for him to win. Squibb pushed hard and he’d have come close, but word on the street is they gave Kobi his round 1 plate 5. That’s at least 20/25 wings! Kobi would have actually legitimately eaten an impressive 315 or something, but they needed it to be a slaughter. Otherwise all the money WIP spent sending him to 76ers games, renting him mummers, having celebrities on his float, throwing in with Tony Luke’s would have been as big of a flop as last year with the empty promises of Joey’s entering. The big name never came through. This year when it did, they made damn sure Kobi couldn’t point the finger at them. So they threw him higher numbers. I also believe the other eaters numbers were as high as stated, but they kept Torres out of the top 3. She ate 29 wings in round 3! She had the top 3 seat and WIP took it from her. Robbed. Just like The Black Widow. It’s a shame these eaters can’t get the credit they deserve. Take away the false hype of Kobi and you still had a hell of a showdown! Squibb, Torres, US Male, even Wingadore put on a great performance. I hear most won’t return next year due to the fact there was talk on the floor of the padding Kobi’s number scandal. If those wingettes could count they’d make better judges. It’s a sad day in the eating world, but I congratulate Kobi on the 300 he did eat.

They did a nice job piecing the two stories together. Not sure why there was so many pics of Jaws in a story about Shoudt and Squibb, but it was a positive article shining some good press on what we all do.
