there definition of a professional is the same at “The Catch” in Anahiem, you cant have done any sort of eatting challenge/contest and won cash before….
with that criteria… i dont think we’ll be seeing $20k switch hands lol =[

If you’ve ever eaten before… you do not qualify for this challenge! (Unless you are BB.)
In other words, we don’t even HAVE $20,000., its just a big # we pulled out of thin air, to falsely draw media attention.

That isn’t that big of a pizza for a two-person team, even for newbies. There is a chance they will end up paying out the $20,000. I know lots of non-competitive eaters with big appetites. If they don’t have the $20,000, they are taking a risk.
Moreover, it is possible competitive eaters could come in disguise, with fake ID’s, etc. I also know quite a number of competitive eaters, in fact, who only eat under an “eating name” or a fake name, for all sorts of reasons, something that writers would call a “nom de plume” or pen name (Samuel Clemens = Mark Twain), or actors would call a “stage name” (Winona Ryder = Winona Horowitz). These eaters could just show up and use their real ID’s and no one would know until the money was paid out.
Also, sometimes a company has insurance for big-prize payouts. I read an article about a golf tournament that offered a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one on a certain hole. The article mentioned they had an insurer who agreed to cover any prizes legitimately won, but there was a lawsuit since the hole-in-one was hit on a mulligan. The same applies to some basketball half-time contests with big prizes.

i agree with joe, they’re is no 2 team average joes who can win this…. no way….
ive seens joes eat 5-6lb pies before, but this was in 1 hour…. twice the time
as far as going in with fake names, not gonna happen,
they’re predetermining the teams this weekend and do backround checks and shit, hence how i know i am DQ’d
unless you got a fake ID then fat chance lol! (This is VERY similar to the shit going on at The Catch in Anahiem,CA)

Yeah I think I’ll go with Joe’s opinion also, even if it means disagreeing with the modern day legend, Stephanie Wu.

Joe after your performance in wingbowl you proved proved to all of us that if you stayed on with the IFOCE you would have receieved the same ass kicking you were getting from Jarvis Booker and the rest of the old timers and the new blood would have embarassed you even further. If you lost to the the number 21 ranked eater in the IFOCE i could imagine what the eaters ranked above that number would have done to you in other food competitions. Stay independent or eat with those imitation clowns you aligned yourself with all those years. It does alot for your ego and wont tarnish your questionable eating abilities

I surely don’t question Joe’s eating abilities. He’ll be the first to admit that long distance events are not his forte. He didn’t get to be ranked # 6 in the IFOCE because of his popularity, and he’s at least as good now as he was back in the day.

Hey BB, why don’t you just break down and get you an eatfeats account? That way you can avoid delays in having your comments posted. Just a thought.

Joe was excellent and more in IFOCE and stands tall on his principles. Perhaps he, more than most, has had a realistic assessment of his eating talents. And he has a sense of humor. He continues to make his mark in competitive eating.

Also, I have to say that of all the eaters interviewed by BB over the years, it was his pairing with GJoe that I enjoyed the most. BB and Joe have excellent chemistry together—-seriously!

I was hoping to have more interaction today, especially while I sat through this boring, head bob-inducing 2-hour teleconference.
Oh well, if that’s what they want to pay me $40.00+ an hour for, so be it.

I would have to disagree with Rhonda. I just saw the interview with Charles Hardy & Dale Boone on his website from 2006 and it is right up there with the GJ interview.

@bigoja32 I will be up there watching and cheering you guys on! Good luck with this and just have fun! Even if you guys dont complete it you will have some aweseome pizza and would have helped out the community with all the cans of food you brought in! So its a win all around, the $20,000 is just extra icing on the cake (or toppings on the pizza in this case!)
