Possible future Nathan’s TV hosts
An email from Megamunch about ESPN radio’s Mike & Mike possibly hosting Nathan’s in 2008 follows after the jump. The email also includes a report of Kobayashi being ranked #22 in Stuff Magazine’s ranking of the most powerful men under 30.
This morning on ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning, hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic were discussing the Nathan’s contest and competitive eating in general. Greenberg (who plays the Nancy boy role) said the whole concept makes him nauseus and he could never be a competitive eater. Mike Golic (a former NFL’er) said he “couldn’t look away” from the Nathan’s contest and found it “absolutely compelling.” Golic said (and he sounded serious) that he wants to go for the twinkie record of 25 in 5 minutes. Greenberg said he’ll help him in his training.
Then when they were talking about Nathan’s, Golic said “I think you and I are going to call it next year.” (Greenberg and Golic commentate a variety of fringe sports events — like the spelling bee — mainly because of their ability to banter and be entertaining when the event isn’t.). Greenberg admitted that they offered them the Nathan’s announcing duties “that one year.”
IN OTHER NEWS:
Kobayashi has been named #22 on Stuff Magazine’s (August issue) list of the 30 most powerful men under the age of 30. Here’s what they had to say:
WHO THE HELL HE IS: At only 5 foot 7, “The Tsunami” is the top ranked competitive eater in the world. He’s only lost once — to a Kodiak bear.
CASH FLOW: Get this: Kobayashi pulls in $250,000 a year.
CULTURAL CACHET: Because of him, Major League Eating is a genuine force, awarding $500,000 in prize money in ’06 alone.
WHY YOU WISH YOU WERE HIM: Kobayashi gets paid to eat 16,000 calories in a 12-minute span.

They are great, and I hope they get the gig – one of the more entertaining shows on radio – but will Golic announce, or be unable to resist the urge to compete?!?…and more important, will he wear facepaint??
