Wow, four contests in five days in early September, including three consecutive days. OJ – Other than the US Open events, has there ever been three separate contests on three consecutive days?
As for the July 4 Nathans not appearing anywhere on the any of the many IFOCEMLE websites, it’s only the sport’s biggest event by a landslide…why bother trying to get people excited about it or try promoting it beforehand. I mean, does the NFL talk about the Super Bowl before it happens? I don’t think so. Most years, you don’t hear anything about it until the day of the game, right? Some years, the Super Bowl comes and goes and you don’t even realize it until you hear some friends talking about it a week later. I hate it when that happens.
Oh wait! On the IFOCE.com portal page there’s a big link to the Nathan’s contest! Ooops, no, that’s just a link to the results of last year’s contest. Nevermind.
Speaking of last year’s events, according to the MLE website (not to be confused with the similar IFOCE website), there hasn’t been a competitive eating event since the Battle at the Big Apple on November 8, 2008. You see that a lot in other sports too. Like I’ll bet if you go the Major League Baseball website and check the scoreboard or schedule, it’ll only list games from last year’s playoffs even though we’re almost halfway through the current season. Plus websites are so hard to update and the internet is so confusing. It’s all good.

The MLE site is horrible and needs a major overhaul anyways. I might be hitting TX around Sept 26th on my honeymoon, I’m going to try and make Tamales.

I agree the site is horrible the updates and videos are outdated and the message board is the pits. Crazy Legs is basically talking to himself on the message boards most of the time because nobody bothers to chime in, with the exception of a few loyalists. What it needs is someone like a Nic Fry to spice it up abit. By the way nic thanks for nothing

MM – Last Labor day weekend, there were 5 IFOCE contests over the August 30, 31, and September 1 span. Two weeks later, there were 6 contests over the September 12-14 weekend.

Correction – there were 6 contests scheduled over the September 12-14 weekend, but the Houston Kolache contest was cancelled due to a hurricane.

Megamunch…only every Labor Day weekend.
Do you guys even think before you ask your questions?

I do think (most of the time), but what’s the significance of Labor Day weekend in competitive eating? Is it some kind of common knowledge? I’ll just wait until the MLE website updates its results for the answer…sometime in 2011.

And by the way, the World Corny Dog Championship is the next day in Dallas at the State Fair of Texas. Would make a very filling weekend for ambitious competitors.
