Pumpkin contest between Shirota/Tomoko and GJoe / “Rubber Gut”
AICE news reports that a multiple round, tag team eating contest between two person mixed gender teams from the United States and Japan will take place at Ron Wallace’s pumpkin farm in Greene, Rhode Island on August 21. The food will be a variety of pumpkin based dishes. Nobuyuki “the Giant” Shirota and Tomoko “Esute” Miyake will represent the Japanese, while the home team will consist of “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti and Elizabeth “Rubber Gut†Cassidy. Ms. Cassidy was predicted to come in fourth at May’s AICE rib contest in Kansas City, but no results for her from that event were listed and I have not been able to find any other competitive eating information about her on the internet.
In his blog, Shirota reports that he will be going abroad next week, but does not provide further details (automatically translated):
By the way next week, almost it is the foreign country.
There is no sight-seeing, is.
Today, because carrying which can be used even in the foreign country was rented, when perhaps it does
Perhaps, it renews [burogu] from the foreign country, perhaps, but it does not do.
AICE news also reports that Joel “the Cannon” Podelsky won the knish eating contest held on the Coney Island Cyclones Jewish Heritage Night.

I’ve heard rumors that Steakbellie & Sonya Thomas are in it too.
They wanted one co-ed team where the female would out eat the male.

Menchetti and Rubber Gut will try their hardest. Shirota won’t try hard at all. He will do just enough to win because he won’t see the need to punish himself or to embarrass his opponents. Menchetti and Chowhound will claim that it was a very close contest. They will ignore the fact that Shirota didn’t try.

Those Japanese guys got it right. I love the idea of team eating events and tag team events. I think it helps to build eater relationships and have everyone in the eating community feel more like a team instead of always head to head rivals.

also,
Nice job APE on snagging a deal with the Giant, and also for coming up with something fun like a co-ed-tag-team!

Madam Lazora,
You have submitted a reasonable possibility.
BB, make sure you wait on Sat.
The Butler may be the greatest human since Mother Teresa, BUT his only impact has been to see how many he can beat Jed Donahue in Hot Dogs, when he’s ‘enjoying the perfect dog’. SEVEN! He never entered the “sport”.
BTW, I predict Jed will win Tofu if the prize is similar to last year.

Gentleman Joe has won several contests this year. Maybe it is her that would be the weak link in the team.

Joe ,when you lose a few contests in a row you wont be so vocal on this site. It appears that you are happy that you will be going up against shirota which is the sole reason why you are parading your assinine remarks all over this website. I have yet to see one IFOCE member wish you success in this upcoming tag team contest

Anon.
My remarks (assinine or not) have been all over this site since even before I closed speedeat. I would be much happier if I was going against Shirota solo in a contest 5 minutes or less as opposed to an unknown length of time w/ an unknown entity. I fully expect to have fun. (Yes that’s a synonym for lose) but, I have thought I would lose other times & won & expected to win & have lost.
Why would any ifoce member publicly wish me luck. The aice guys did in person @ Windmill. Additionally, I have broken others balls for the constant wishing of luck & token congratulations. When I have congratulated others I’ve added & congrats to everyone for everything. Or something to that effect.
