Qualifier winners and hot dog prizes

In his most recent blog entry, Pat Bertoletti says he has yet to receive the hot dogs traditionally awarded to Nathan’s qualifiers winners for his victories in 2007 and 2008. If other qualifier victors would like to state whether they have received their hot dog prize, please comment in this thread.

When i competed with Leon Feingold in Nathans french fries eating contest in oceanside ny in 2005 they finally gave Leon Feingold his year supply of dogs they owed him from 2002. Leon needed a ride home and rewarded me with a 5lb bag . That is one good guy. He is truly missed in the sport

I’m sure this is not impossible to fix. Its not like “…a pound of flesh” …or “the funeral baked meats that did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables” just get the kid some Nathans Hotdogs. Its summertime, he’s young,… got a heck of a jaw, … he earned them, …unless Nathans owes like over 20 qualifier winners thats over 7300 dogs. If it bigger than that…. then Nobody is getting anything …Economy sucks!”” America America… they haven’t paid me my hotdogs!””….Who will write this story?

its not just the hot dogs, its how they divvy up prize money, travel funds, top stars vs table enders its the way they handle their business …. no ethics

I’m still owed for 2 of my 4 wins.

    AZ & Saratoga.

I did receive my dogs from Rye Playland ’01 & Philly ’03.

The lack of ethics/respect from the ifoce/Nathan’s is one of the larger reasons why I left.

I didn’t find out until I was told by a fellow eater on the bus ride to Coney Island in my second year of qualifying that the winner was supposed to get 2 boxes of dogs, I made sure I got my 2 boxes last year …so in 3 years of qualifying i’m down 2 boxes. The bottom line is you have to speak up at the end of the contest because everyone just wants to get the HECK (I apologise for the harsh language ..it was my tribute to George Carlin!) out of there!

Maybe they subtract all the hot dogs eaten in the contest from the actual prize…if so, Joey owes them some dogs!! They can take my share, and ship it to Africa –

What do you say to an Ethiopian who just ate a hot dog?…”Is that a hot dog in your stomach, or are you just happy to see me???”

It would be nice if some of the winners of Nathans qualifiers would offer a bag (5lbs) of their 60lbs worth to others like myself that didnt make it to the big show. Leon Feingold and Tim Janus were the only ones that were nice enough to offer me a bag. I am not trying to come off as someone looking for handouts but a few unnamed eaters promised me a bag from their winnings and i got shit in return.I shouldnt have to ask. “Hey remember the dogs you promised me”. What is this like freakin third grade “No these are my comic books and im not sharing” . I hate cheapness. . Learn to give to your fellow eaters and they in turn will give back to you

Brian S. the way u r if other eaters did that then you would be pissed and get grumpy if someone gave someone else five lbs and not you. Beseides how do you know people have not been generous without you knowing about it or are you the self appointed gate keeper on that? Brian only cares about Brian and all the stuff along the way is fodder to get there.

You guys are lucky enough to get on TV & get any press coverage, the complaining is ridiculous with all the new generation eaters. They want appearance fees, & unreasonable things, the sport doesn’t need them. They are so boring, they should train on personality.
Brian, win a contest, & maybe you will get to fill your cavity with free hot dogs, otherwise start begging people to offer rides again.

This really isn’t an issue of “knocking the sponcer.” The eaters should be taking their complaint to the MLE/Sheas, because it’s their job to make sure their eaters get the rewards they’re promised. Granted, it’s only a couple boxes of hot dogs, but still.

I agree MM. the eaters “work” for the IFOCE, not the sponsors. It’s the IFOCE’s responsibility to ensure the eaters get what they’re entitled to. Perhaps that org does a good job of that. Who’s to say but the eaters themselves?

Brian, it should be totally out of the goodness of one’s heart if he or she wants to give away dogs or other prizes to eaters of lesser ability. I don’t think that an eater is cheap just because he doesn’t share.

It’s impossible to please some people, because either they will get hurt or offended by recipient A getting dogs when recipient B didn’t. If it were me, I would keep them all for myself (or not advertise who I gave them to) just for that reason. That way I’m viewed as an equal opportunity grinch without a bias.

After everything else Nathan’s puts into the contest, they probably don’t care about a few more cases of hotdogs any way. Hit up the IFOCE for the payout.

Oh, buy the way, for everyone else that makes some money off of eating, please send me 10%. Hey I’m not looking for a handout or anything like that… Wait a minute, I don’t want ya’ll to be cheap, better make that 25%!!! 😀

Some cannot even fit those boxes in their freezer especially non homeowners. Whats this Hmmm Carey? . I tried burying the hatchet with you and now you want to rehash the bs between us all over again? Your choice my friend. As far as the anonymous postings that take offense to my “cheapness” remark , i dont respond to you unless you attach a name. Who is D.. Sanchez? Never heard of her. And for the record anonymous asswipe Brian does care about Brian and he also cares about others. Now if anyone out there is kind enough to donate a 5lb bag of their winnings it would be greatly appreciated . I wont get offended if your reason for giving me the dogs were due to lack of storage space or you just had no use for them to begin with. I WANT THE DOGS NOW . I WANT EM I WANT EM . I WANT EM . Do unto others and they will do unto you. You want all 60lbs for yourself you selfish bastards. You should be ashamed of yourself. The same bretheren of moral and self righteous gurgitators that passed on purchasing butifulbrian’s new cd are more than likely the same self centered individuals that would not offer him a 5lb bag of hot dogs from their winnings. Perhaps because it’s not a cash prize, Nathans doesnt realize the value that the Eaters place on the cases of Hot Dogs. Because they are up to their eyes in Hot Dogs every day, they dont see what the big deal is.

I have found this to be the most expensive contest to train for. It takes weeks and weeks to get the rhythem and capacity down, and quite alot of prep work just to get the things bought, cooked properly and plated. All the while buying packs and packs of dogs, buns, lemonade, and the latest Hustler. Other brands go down differently, so if you can afford the actual dogs it’s a bonus.

I can see where a few cases of competition grade dogs in the freezer would be a huge help financially. I cant imagine how many Dogs Joey or Pat must go through. It’s a good thing I’m not near their level, because I couldnt afford it.

Fake from SF you pathetic sack of shit, if you know anything about the olive garden most of their restaurants keep their prices within a family budget. which makes it a major dining attraction for those that cant afford high price italian cuisine. I happened to point out the unusual high price because the olive garden has been known to feed a family of 4 for under $40. Since you only dwell on the negative when it comes to anything i print , it doesnt surprise me one bit that a moronic ass like yourself couldnt comprehend the point i was trying to convey. You are a nothing in life and a nothing in society so in essence your little digs on me makes you feel important . Consider this your lucky day that i even bothered responding back to you. Your opening line of “this is coming from a guy” should apply to you.. It should read “this is coming from a guy who’s personal best is 6or 7 hot dogs and buns . Knock em dead in the SF qualifier !

I know that when I see a gratuity added to my bill, I won’t leave a tip, putting down another 5 percent on the table on a $50 tab is only $2.50, and looks even cheaper. I usually tip 20% when there is no added gratuity. Their loss. Used to be only with six or more at a table, now I see the added gratuity everywhere. Saves me some money so I won’t complain.

  51. Anonymous said

    June 26, 2008 @ 9:44 am

To whom does it look cheaper, Carey? To a friend briefly glancing over your shoulder?

If you want to tip somebody on top of a tip, you should, regardless of whether you’re penciling in amount that or placing on the table an amount that by itself looks small. The waiter knows and will be happy for the extra money, and that’s what matters. Every 2.50 matters because every 2.50 adds up.

  52. Carey said

    June 26, 2008 @ 10:06 am

anony 9:44 you fail to get the point. According to BB his hostess was as slow as shit. If you are a presented with a dirty spoon while your salad is waiting and it takes forever for the hostess to bring another one , then its quite obvious that the service is lousy. The hostess can smile in your face all she wants but if the food aint there then dont expect a big tip. Unless you feel the waitress might be a potential blowjob then there is no reason on this planet to add an additional tip to a bill that includes a gratuity fee upfront. You will never see the waiter again so why on earth are you being so generous unless you have money to burn. I certainly don’t
