From Brian’s site: “Legendary retired competitive eater Ray the Bison Meduna whom many have
referred to as the Lou Gehrig of the sport…”
What???
How is Meduna the Iron Man? He competed in 9 contests in 2 years. What is Brian talking about?

Anony cut the man some slack ok. His career was cut short by a serious training injury that needed surgery. He was on the verge of making his mark until it happened . He should have been the commissioner of the sport from the very beginning

It was ok but in comparison to the MLE “eaters rivalries” DVD MKE put out in 2006 or 7 this documentary does not hold a candle to that one. But then again the rivalries video was put together on a professional level as opposed to a film project from a college student . I have to admit without Meduna input the documentary would be a flop . They needed him to save the show

Ray Meduna has this amazing deep voice that captivates an entire room. Sheas never knew talent when it is staring them right in the face. When this man judged events there was none of this debris nonsense and more importantly no cheating

Anonymous 10:06, The Iron Man was Cal Ripken… Lou Gehrig had a potentially better career cut short by issues concerning health/disease. Not sure if this helps but that was the analogy that was being put forth.
That would make one hell of an independent or short film. If this was a project for college i think it deserves a good grade. Even the part about the food starting to taste like used condoms. I am honored to learn some of the history of competitive eating, (Ray the Bison). Not all of us were drawn to the idea by Nathans on the forth of july. some of us just saw a contest at a fair or seen an add in a newspaper touting “can you eat the most wings?” How did the girl do in that sushi contest that was cut short?

Dear, Cutter.
Google it. Lou Gehrig was the original “Iron Man,” “Iron Horse,” and “Biscuit Pants.”
I get the cut-short issue, but the comparison is sloppy and incomplete. Yes, Gehrig’s career ultimately was cut short by health issues, but he had already played for 17 years! Meduna’s career spanned 2 years, and he barely even competed during that tiny window.

The iron horse, I believe was Lou’s nickname.

I would tend to agree with 10:10 am short career . If he continued eating against Legs in that hotel qualifier from 2002 he would have made it to Coney. Meduna is a great role model for the sport and should be hired as a permanent judge to avoid tarnishing the reputation of MLE which unfortunatly has been tarnished for the longest

The documentary was very well done, it doesn’t matter who did it. Ray has a great voice. The main concern I have is what the filmmaker intended or intends to do with it. Why didn’t she put it on YouTube and was her permission granted to post it? There are always issues of copyright and the maker of whatever content has the legal right to control how it is presented. That doesn’t mean that this right isn’t often overlooked, but I would hate to see the excellent efforts of the filmmaker and crew and Ray and all parties become compromised. And why isn’t there the whole on YouTube, parts I and II if they limit things to 15 minutes?

I would like to see Ray be a judge for all majors. He has the drive to make us all better and that is a fact.I can feel it in his voice that competing is what He really would like to do.Maybe a match beween others retirees and Ray eating something soft would be an idea.

Maybe we can call Ray
The Iron Bison of Eating

MLE used Ray to judge a few contests like Barrick Burger . He did a great job and not one eater complained. Like Kobayashi they could care less about role models and leadership for where are the both of them now? Certainly not with IFOCE.

Whatever moniker they give Ray, no one can argue what a class act the man is and actually the “Lou Gehrig” thing works for me

Yeah, Lou Gehrig was the original Iron Man. I just remember often times seeing his speech at yankee stadium, he is more remembered by me as a superstar who got a disease and had to stop playing, just like those guys that go the military or off to war and their career ended short as well. It is all well before my time but i thought the analogy was appropriate. Two incredible baseball figures. Unlike some of the “superstars” that we see today and their associated behavior. Anyway i understand how Lou Gehrig is also the iron man.
