Ryan Nerz video & Brian Seiken chapter now available online
The Daily Show website has an online video of Ryan Nerz’s appearance Tuesday at http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/media_player/play.jhtml?itemId=61778
Ryan Nerz has made available his chapter about Beautiful Brian and the 2004 Ohio watermelon contest that his editor excised from the final manuscript at http://eatthisbook.com/?page_id=38 If you are considering purchasing “Eat This Book,” that chapter provides a good sample of the style and content of the whole book.

I commend Ryan Nerz . An extremely well written chapter by a very articulate human being. After reading the missing chapter i think i misjudged him and he made every effort to try to get the chapter in print. Everything in that chapter is right on the money. Nerz is a great writer in every sense of the word

I guess BB’s opinion changes depending on how well you stroke his ego. This is one of the times you should have used a nome de plume, if you were going to comment

Brian, no offense, I love ya, but I gotta finally agree with G Joe on this one.
The one thing that I think is truly lame about competitive eating is the tendency for you guys to think of yourselves first and foremost. The egoes are HUGE!!! It’s kind of strange… Where’s the humility?
My favorite eaters, or entertainers in general- sports stars, writers, musicians, comedians, rappers- whatever, are the guys who support those around them first. They know it’ll come back their way because they deserve it. It’s a cycle that will constantly work itself out to everyone’s benefit so long the circle remains intact.
As an outsider I really have no business making this kind of judgement, so I’m sorry, but as a big fan I just wanted to put my opinion into the mix.

I cannot disagree with you guys. I do enjoy the attention which has its ups and downs. The downside is if people know thats what you like they will try to take it away from you which was the case in Ryan’s book . I think that the eaters that Ryan devoted chapters to, have accomplished alot more than i have in competitive eating so they deserve the praise. My omitted chapter was more along the lines of a human interest story which if cut down a few pages or so ( admit it was a bit too long) i couldnt see any reason why they could not find a place for it in the book .

To clarify Tubestock GJoe and emails i have recieved regarding my change of heart on Ryan’s book let me say this so it is clarified to the point. I originally stated that there were only two chapters in the book that i found of interest. Chpt 14 & Chp 21. This was in fact due to my anger regarding the omitted chapter.I never said the book was “boring” which Ryan orginally accused me of in an email. What i stated was and it is somewhere on the comment page of “eat this book ” blog on this site. “Tell me something i dont already know” . Did i say anything about boring? In this case read between the lines does not apply as far as im concerned. However i came back to this site a few days later apologizing for jumping the gun On Ryans book and that after reading the book in detail found it to be much more interesting than i originally stated and this was before i knew anything about Ryan deciding to publish my omitted chapter on his website. For Gjoe to comment that “Brians opinion changes depending on how well you stroke his ego?’ On what basis Joe? the book itself or my chapter.? It makes a big difference how you word this because it can mean the difference of accusing me of being a BS artist and a phoney or someone trying that appreciates good reading material. GJoe & Tube, did i ever say Ryans book is brilliant now that i read my omitted chapter? No what i said was the omitted chapter was excellent and makes for a great human interest story. I do admit i enjoy having my ego stroked but in the future apply it to the correct comments.

Dave, i think if Ryan wore glasses they could be twins. Same voice same mannerism. Ryan could pass for a rabbi in a hearbeat with the proper attire. Yankel gave me a set of barbells when i was 15 . Five years later he asked me if i use them alot . when i said once inawhile , he said he would like to have them back. Real sport huh? Last of the big spenders. Im pissed i dont have a recent picture of him. Working on it.
