The corn dog contest at last year’s county fair awarded $800
The state fair in July 2012 had a $2900 purse

Milo: Regarding prize money, what’s the difference between now and two years ago? There are so many independent eaters who are willing to eat for basically a free meal and see their name in the paper that their willing to eat for those small prizes. Now anybody who wins a contest in their college dorm cafeteria thinks they’re Joey Chestnut and Sonya Thomas. Just look at APE, they’re lucky if they can get sponsored by a girl scout cup cake eating contest. The independents are canabalizing themselves out of any substantial prizes because venues are seeing that these independent attention craving dopes will eat their companies’ pizza, corn dogs, hot dogs, etc. for free. The only ones you have to blame are the APE and indie eaters themselves for going on line everytime they eat a big chilli dog. If these APE and indies want to give their restaurant free publicity, why pay for it?
