A little slow-moving, tedious at times, but the contest parts are fun to watch – keep looking, you will see most of the top-ranked IFOCE eaters in Cherokee Casino Ribs, Stone Mountain Waffle House (from 2006), Krystal final from 2006, and Atlanta Nathan’s hot dog contest.
Heavy emphasis on the southern eaters in the non speaking roles- Larry The Legend, SuperPaul, Hangman, Hall, Boone, lots of one-hit wonders like The Pope, and more that are just passing through. That was the best stuff, it was “spot the eaters”. Somebody should keep a tally of who they see – somebody who is very patient, has TIVO, and a lack of anything better to do.

The “Pope” John Paul moved to Denver and 2006 was his last year at Nathans. He moved because of his Job. He also ate in the two previous years. One of the things he did which I thought was cool was from a Nathans cup he used a wisk to cast “holy” water onto the crowd while dressed as the Pope hat and all.

REALLY?
Thats freaking awesome. I love people that can eat, but I lust for those that can have a good time at the table. Pope, Pope Hat, Frakenscene, Mur, HDB’s thats some fun stuff. So much of religion is based around food it would be easy to apply scripture to the event.
the Parable of the Mustard Seed to Sonya
the story of ‘Fishers of Men’ to The Whaler
(I’m hoping) The Prodigal Son to Jed Donahue (never met him but I will always be impressed by the 1 HDB at Coney)
Shadrach, Michach and Abednigo to Erik the Red
The story of Fertile Soil to Hall Hunt (who could make a flower out of a pile of dirt)
Pope please come back!
