Bickel said he hopes to break a world record for chicken wings, no time limit and says 242 will do it… Is the wing record really 241 with no time limit, I can’t find info anywhere to confirm this.

Joey Chestnut ate 241 wings over 30 minutes in the 2008 Wing Bowl, which was a record for that contest. I don’t know what the untimed record is.

Good info OJ… So basically Bickel is taking the highest number from wing bowl, labeling it a “world record” and saying if he beats that number without a time limit, he’ll now be known as the wing record holder??? hmmm okay…. Oh well, still, it’s for a great cause and I can’t dispute that. Best of luck Scotty! 🙂

    Great effort Scotty!

Scotty said 242 wings is 16lbs… I’m not a wing eater, but 242 wings sounds like it can be 16lbs with bone, not actual meat. Or is that right, is 242 wings roughly 16lbs of meat?

As for Bickel, I applaud his efforts and the cause for his effort but this is his 2nd fail. Maybe now he knows his limit, maybe he shouldn’t go for the likes of Joeys records and do stuff more around his rehlm.

242 wings is far less than 16 pounds. More like a third of that.

With 16 pound of wings this man can win wing bowl, Buffalo wings and every other wing event. A new superstar!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know what to make of this. Great cause so all is good. He certainly holds the record for Cleats wings in one sitting. Depending on the type of wing, many decent eaters will feel full after about 50-80 wings of non stop eating. So many variables but the fact that Bickle has competitive eating experience adds a bit more credibility to this routine. Anybody know the time on the event? did he do it in an hour or so?

    Very impressive nevertheless.

At that rate Bickel should be the undisputed King of wing eating.

It is an accomplishment, I can only assume it took about an hour. Nobody has actually seen me eat so it is inconsequential what I can do at this point. I have never eaten wings for the long game anyway. For the curious, I pulled that figure of “fullness” by converting hdbs to wings. I figure 6-8 wings constitutes an hdb. At this point Bickel is in the 30-35 range for hdb’s.

It is one thing to be the best eater in a household, the best on my block, the best in the neighborhood… I am not even the best in my city, not by a longshot. And i do not know where Bickel is either. at 200+ wings one might assume he can get into the 30 hdb range in the same period of time.

242 wings interesting. my first impression is “i don’t know what to make of this”. Still don’t. Maybe I stand corrected, maybe not the most impressive thing, confounding and interesting.

probably not many get the opportunity to eat 200+ wings in an event like wingbowl because of the multi-stage elimination. so some stages are more about speed than capacity, actually they are all more about speed than capacity. But put them all together and you got 200 wings most years. Therefore one can even say that Joey and others were not at their limit by the end of the event. Again just a beginners observations, stuff to ponder.

    cutter,

I think, that you think, way to much. You can’t convert foods like wings to dogs and get a geustimation. Pat beat Joey at Mars bars in San Diego 30-20 (or something like that I forget the number exact number but close enough for my point)… Does that mean if 20 mars bars in 5 minutes = 68HDB’s then I guess Pat can do 91 HDB’s then right?

Not to mention overall capacity doesn’t always equal how fast a person can eat. If Bickels overall capacity is 35HDB’s, that doesn’t mean he’s gonna do it in 10minutes… The two stories we’ve seen on this Bickle guy haven’t really given us the full numbers. His Apple Bee’s stunt we didn’t really get to see what was left over, the press said “He did roughly 10lbs” is that legit or a Bickle guestimation “242 wings is 16lbs” nor were made aware of how long it took him to eat that supposed 10lbs. Same with this stunt, we knew the number but not the time… Basically Bickel is Clevelands new competitive eating Emperor’s with new clothes, he has promise but but shouldn’t be calling out world records just yet..

well said 175. that is what is great about contests. all the conditions are the same for everybody. and everybody has foods that they suck at. everybody.

Records are as records do!!!. wings like corn records are subjective to too many variables. don’t get me wrong I think wing numbers approching 200wings are impressive, just as getting close to 50 E O C, but I have seen eaters take one bite out of a wing and call it eaten. just as the variance in the size of an ear of corn is the variance in wings. If you think i’m not proud of my “record” wrongo and i will stand by it ( and you know I won’t be asked to defend it )but the only true measure is weight, aka pounds off the bone (and in my case pounds off the cob)
