Competitive Eating lost a close friend over the weekend. Sean Gordon’s mother, Janea Gordon, passed away in a motorcycle accident on Saturday. Sean’s father, Gary Gordon, is in critical condition in a coma with multiple fractures at Christiana Hospital in Delaware.
I spent much time with Sean’s parents as they accompanied Sean to many CE events. True fans. But more important, great people I loved seeing. Mrs. Gordon would always push her way through the crowd with her smiling face to come up to my wife, Sherri, and I and greet us with hugs and kisses. She was so excited to be at an event no matter where it was to cheer her son on. Team Flash Gordon is always the best traveled group with the most team members wearing their shirts. This is the closest tight knit family in Competitive Eating.
Janea and Gary Gordon have been such devoted fans of Competitive Eating throughout the years, it is now the Competitive Eating community’s turn to devote our thoughts and prayers to Sean “Flash” Gordon and his family in hopes that his father is able to recover from this tragic accident.
Thank you for your time,
RICK “THE MANAGER” RUSSO

Extremely sad having learned of this tragedy. Jane was such an incredible lady. She had the gift of making anyone who met her feel as tho they were family. I feel blessed to have been in her presence several times. My husband and I truly enjoyed our times with Jane and Gary. We are holding the Gordon family in our prayers and thoughts. No words can adequately express the sorrow we feel. Praying for a full recovery for Gary.

Thank you Rick for your tribute and for informing us of this tragic news. Everyone who met Sean and his family could not help but be impressed by such loving and enthusiastic about life people. May we mourn together and pray for everyone’s recovery, physically and in each heart. At present I could not find a Care Page for Gary from the link provided. Care Pages are a place to express one’s feelings without intruding and to follow the progress of recovery. We shall have to be patient but be sure that Sean and his family know that we are with them in spirit.

A tragedy like this should not be handled like a press release. I am sure that MLE members have reached out and sent thoughts and prayers as well as the main IFOCE office, Sheas and employees.

Thank you Larell Marie for sending to me the link for the Care Pages. The link above leaves out the g in garyggordon, just as does the Red Knights link. You have to become a member to log-in, it is easy to do. Thoughts and prayers go to the entire Gordon family, may you be soothed by caring people and the community of which you are a wonderful part.
Please, I am asking that you OJRifkin consider my request/suggestion which follows. The anonymous comments posted here to try to cause trouble should be completely removed. 2:46 you have incredibly poor judgment and obviously know about past tragedies in IFOCE. Trying to cause trouble on this thread is beyond comprehension. Nothing should be posted here except for prayers and condolences directed to the Gordon Family. Should Sean happen to read what is being written, how disrespectful to say anything negative. I urge OJRifkin to start by removing the very first comment and begin with that of Rick the Manager and leave in only those postings expressing direct caring. Any dissension is beyond inappropriate as is the anonymous I read it first.

Thank you very much OJRifkin. The link to leave messages, after you register (free and easy to do, just your e-mail and a password) is http://www.carepages.com/carepages/garydgordon
You can then receive progress updates, leave messages publicly or privately. Amazingly, Sean’s Father continues to very slowly recover. It is surely not only the physical care he is receiving but being surrounded by loved ones which keeps him moving forward. Hopefully this will lead to an eventual full recovery so that we can express directly to him our condolences and share the happy memories of his lovely wife who will always be with him in spirit and cheering for Sean.

Thank you all for your support for myself and my family. It’s been a rough few days but we’re holding things together as best as possible. My mom loved being a part of the CE community and had such a great time with everyone. We’re hoping it’s not too long before dad will be back hanging out in his red ringer Flash the Elder tshirt with us all.
