03/15/07 – We are hosting HOT DOG EATING CONTEST! 14 UMW Students are invited to compete against Sonya Thomas, the Black Widow, a world champion competetive eater. This event will be sponsored by Dining Services and OSACS. The contest is being held at Palmari Plaza and will start at 12:15.

    Is this an IFOCE sponsored event? I thought no eating in non-IFOCE sponsored events. NO FREE PUBLICITY.

    Russ anytime you see top eaters in some publicity stunt , it was set up by the Shea’s . You will soon find out how frustrating it is to see certain eaters get appearance fees while others get nothing. Sonya needs to keep her best female eater status because if another female eater comes along and knocks her off , its bye bye.

    (Butch) anonymous perhaps that’s a goal to strive for. To be good enough to command an appearance fees. How do you know she gets anything?

    For sake of argument, why don’t you just show up at the event and give Sonya a run for her money, so you can demonstrate the tremendous oversight the Sheas have in not giving you an apperance fee. It’s a democratic society we live in. Just do it. Just don’t blow it and pray that a local doesn’t come too close to you.

    No female eater is going to knock off Sonya, but it wouldn’t matter if one did anyway. Sonya is a legend, and her reputation helps drive the frenzy for her appearances. A new female eater will never compile a record like Sonya’s, nor will that new eater ever enjoy the same nororiety. Sonya’s reputation is safe.

    It is a known fact that anytime Sonya is dissed in any way shape or form expect her band of loyal bodyguards to post rebuttal . That includes, Hank, Jenny D, Rhonda Evans using anonymous or Sonya herself. They are too chicken to give out their true identity , Luther seems to be the only one that can post negative remarks about Sonya and get away with it. I have given my opinion and if you dont like it too bad!

    I not saying, I want to compete againsst her. It was stated in an email there will be no eating in contest not sponsored by the IFOCE, and no more restaurant challenges either. So whats to say the 3rd grade class at my daughter’s school wants to challenge me to a hot dog eating contest is that okay also.

    Russ Russ Russ. Do we have to repeat ourselves. The ban on challenges applies to IFOCE eaters that attempt to do this on their own. IFOCE bosses can do whatever they please and that includes getting special challenges for top ranked eaters. What is good for the goose in this case is not good for the gander. They are allowed to have their own cake and eat it too. Get it? If this bothers you call them and bitch about it. See how far you will get.

    (Butch) It might be if it were cleared with the IFOCE first, and if it weren’t children (could you imaging if a mom’s little honey choked on a hot dog at such an event), and if you were a recognizable figure who can be used to help sell comp. eat., and if you were a top talent in the sport, and if you have a large following of supporters. If most of those are true I would say you have a valid case. If not, I doubt the Sheas would hear you out.

    (Butch) I actually do not think Sonya is a fakish person. She does not post here likely because she has a life and nothing constructive can come of her postings. I think she reads this stuff sometimes, but I think she is not in to playing he said, she said. I think much the same for most all the people in the top 20. Also, except for Joe M., not many of the top inon-ifoce people seem to post here. Maybe there is a lesson in all this. Maybe some should learn from it.

    (Butch) Russ there is always the AICE and for many eaters that is simply the way to go. I am not trying to be smart either. But most of the rewards in the IFOCE go to people who have a lot of talent. It is a business. The AICE is there for funsies.

    do you realize you are taking over the entire comment portion of this site. Noone wants to comment on here today because they are sick of seeing Butch whereever they go. What happened to Sonya oops i mean Rhonda Evans. Wait she doesn’t post on weekends

    AICE has 4 or 5 very talented eaters who would easily crack the top 15 or possibly top 10 if they were IFOCE members. Aside from that there isnt much

    (Butch) I agree with Conti who writes in his latest Plate column, ” Ignore what you read on the internet and just show up to an IFOCE event, that’s where the love is and I loved the 2006 season with all its stomach churning ups and downs.” That’s explains why the winners don’t post here.

    Boy this thread.really went to Hell in a handbasket with the very first posting! That’s a shame. It seems to happen whenever Sonya or Juliet get mentioned. And then some folks ask why they are defended so vehemently? Is it not obvious?
