Sonya Thomas breaks streak vs. Bertoletti

According to the eatfeats database, yesterday’s Acme Oyster contest was the first time Sonya Thomas finished ahead of Pat Bertoletti since the October 8, 2006 jalapeno eating contest at the Texas State Fair. Bertoletti’s streak spanned 16 competitions.

With the exception of the controversial Mardi Gras crawfish contest, Sonya Thomas had not finished ahead of Tim Janus since the 2007 Three Brothers Pizza contest. (They tied for second place in the 2008 Three Brothers Pizza contest)

    I have a feeling few eaters wanted to see her there. I see this as a year for her resurgence, not that she has lost a step. She hasn’t. She has thus far in 2009 finished ahead of two top five eaters in both contests she has participated in. There will be more to come.
