Will Millender reports that the team consisting of Dave Brunelli, Joe Menchetti and Jon Squibb won the wing eating contest in a controversial manner at the New Jersey State Barbecue Eating Championship in North Wildwood, NJ today. The winning 3 person team received $2500.

    Why wasn’t Canon or US Male eating instead of Menchetti? Menchettj is done. You guys escaped by skin of your wing

    The team that was right with them was myself, Joel and Goldstein. According to the other eaters, we were told that we should have won.
    I do believe the judging was not great this year, but I believe that it was, at the very least a tie. I wish I would have recorded.

    Details are interesting, no disrespect meant BigWill but sometimes comments like should have won seem I don’t know…….just silly. The call is the call. Someone wins or comes in first or a team wins. Others place 2nd etc. Too many comments are could have, should have, would have. Make your objections known where you eat and go on to the next. Every sport does that.

    Lol @ all the comments. Yes a win is a win. But in a pretty fair person an you would be hard pressed to find someone who calls me a liar. At the end of the day, both teams were down to the wire and there was an issue with debris and someone still chewing on the other team and it should have been looked at more closely.
    I believe they had 3 judges for 8 teams of 3 in a wing eating contest?? A little rediculous.
    By whatever, the best proof will be to come back next yr and win undisputed.

    Its funny Menchetti claims he stopped eating in Wingbowl 2003 because he thought Moses Lerman would thrown up and felt sorry for him so he let him get 2nd place . Has to be the most ridiculous excuse i ever heard. Now 10 yrs later he pulls a Juliet and does just the opposite. Well Joe guess what ? You are a stinkin Mencheater. Will team should be splitting the $2500 . And you have the audacity to play dumb when confronted ?.

    I’m not calling Menchetti a cheater in the slightest. I couldn’t see what was going down on their end and at the end of the day, if they got away with anything, it’s the judges fault, not the team that won.
    I just felt th judging could have been stronger.

    I wasn’t confronted. Very brief twittersation w/Will. Spoke with Joel today, in person. It definitely was not a confrontation.

    I did not know it was Will’s team that was complaining, because Bradley’s team had close to a 10 wing lead on us after the 1st eater, I assumed it was them that we edged out.

    Both of those teams were way on the other side of the table on a small stage that had about 40 people on it.

    All I did was anchor the team, exactly the way an anchor should, by surpassing & dominating. By eating 25 good sized wings, (not wingbowl esque) as clean as anyone at the table in approx. 73 seconds. My teammates & judge can confirm this. It was gratifying to see Squibb, a guy who has won several cars in contests so excited by the contest win.

    Congrats to Molly, who beat me in Bun & Cheese by a second or two. & then won Beef Patties too. I didn’t have nearly enough left, to come in the money, in the 2nd contest w/the world class eaters I was at the table w/.

    To understand WB 03 correctly, I did not let Lerman win. I saw that Wingador had me, so I slowed down or stopped because there was no known prizes for 2nd or 3rd & because Lerman looked like he was going to throw up the ENTIRE second 14 minutes. I stand by that statement, as I always have. I’m sure BB remembers. It is not revisionist history. As that turned out, we both won Movado watches, Lerman got to choose which one he wanted. I like what mine looks like, but have never worn it because I seldom wear jewelry & the band does not fit.

    GJoe gives excellent information in depth under his own name. One comment like that is worth gold compared to the idiotic jealous dumb cannot understand or worse comments from some. So thanks for bringing this back 6:48 am. Unlike old vendettas, this is information.
