Thanks OJ! Also, just uploaded video to YouTube of the win: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n3JBQELZv0

I have falsely been accused of being a professional competitive eater because of this win: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rocklin-CA/The-Chefs-Table/73176712953?v=wall&story_fbid=161051570588225&ref=mf

I explained to them that there are many people out there who could easily beat my time, and that I am no professional! In fact, I am just an average to good amateur. I’ve lost more challenges than I have won:

Since Stephanie is making a very robust effort in announcing all these “records”, I think that is her way of calling out the black widow in a showdown.

I just set a record consuming the largest amount of boiled cabbage while sitting on the porch at my sister’s house. I stick to the low cal foods, however, because I’m 20 pounds overweight and high blood pressure runs in my family.

She needs to start with a lower rank like Juliet.Steph might have a chance there.

take it easy on her. this is a lot more of a record then this person eating the food by himself. you FED people can make stuff up and it counts? she does something that is an established amount, doen previously and can be done again and it is no good? heck the cabbage on the porch should be a record before this suchi one is. too bad you cant take some of that 20 lbs and put it in the empty heads of some of these FEDs

stepanie the problem with yrou videos is that all of them are still shots with music playing in the back. We need to see actual footage so we can hear what you sound like

I think Stephanie sums it up the best “I am just an average to good amateur. I’ve lost more challenges than I have won.”

I would say she is average to somewhat ok, based on her winning %

    Results speak for themselves.

There is film in each video I have made, sandwiched by still photos and text. I will add the time to each description where the film portion begins.

Thanks Rhonda and anonymous 10:40 AM! I’m a little disappointed in how so many threads here break down into anonymous and other people insulting the person being written about.

Regarding records, I’ve already addressed this issue in a number of previous posts (for example, see this thread: http://eatfeats.com/stephanie-wu-sets-overall-chicago-doggery-record.html). I removed “world record” from all of my website pages after having thought about the issue and agreeing with what some posters said, even though I could have made a good argument for leaving the things the way they were. I wanted to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, dishonesty, or controversy.

But now, even after that, it appears that some people here do not understand what a simple “record” is. A “record” is merely “an unsurpassed measurement”. So it is perfectly ok to say I have the record fastest time for the Sweet Lew Burger challenge, which I do have, at least for now. I ate the burger in 9:58.03 and no one has beaten that time yet. I’m sure someone will come along soon and beat that time, and then they will have the record time. By professional competitive eating standards, 9:58.03 is not great.

Nowhere did I claim that this was a “world record” or official in that an organization like Guinness has certified it. Nor did I claim that this was the record fastest time for any burger ever eaten. I simply stated it was the record fastest time for a specific burger served in a specific challenge with its own idiosyncratic rules: the Sweet Lew Burger, served only at The Chef’s Table in Rocklin, CA. This burger is unique and you can order it only in one place. It’s not like Sonya Thomas holding the chicken wing record or Joey holding the HDB record. I didn’t claim the record for a general food category like they hold, but for an individual restaurant challenge. There’s a big difference.

As for announcing my records, I make an annoucement for any eating challenge I do, win or fail. So far my win-loss record is 14-25-0 (0.359) (see http://stephaniesamerica.com/about.html#record). I’ve made a lot more announcements for losses than anything else. They don’t get announced here by OJ as much as the wins do, which is fine, since this is his website and a loss is nothing to brag about. But I announce both wins and losses on twitter, facebook, etc. to share my experiences at these challenges, thereby hopefully helping others who may be interested in the challenge or the restaurant, the area, “roadside attractions”, etc. If EatFeats or other sites pick up on these, great. And invariably, the restaurant also likes the publicity and that someone is blogging about them. It makes them feel good. I am in no way “calling out” Sonya Thomas or anyone else like some people keep repeating. Am I happy that I broke a local record? Of course! But I don’t claim to be a pro eater, or even a great amateur. In fact, I was the one who reported to EatFeats and on twitter that I finished in last place in the Tehama Corn Dog Eating Contest. How is that calling out anyone??? I like to eat, but I usually have even more fun writing about my experiences, taking pics, making videos, etc. and sharing these with the restaurant involved and others.

As for my videos, I appreciate the feedback. I do have a lot of still pics in the beginning and end, to explain the challenge and my results, and this does make them boring. I do have video, but this may not be obvious since it often doesn’t start for a minute or so. I will try to make them more exciting overall, perhaps by including less stills, more audio, etc.

Stephanie, your post is far too long for me to read just now. But I would like you to look carefully before thanking 10:40 am anonymous. It is one thing to give you a compliment, but it is done at the expense of making accusations and saying very negative things about MLE/IFOCE and Eater X Tim Janus. The same people who make these kinds of comments may be the ones who seem to be or want to be your best friend and supporter one second and your worst enemy the next.

I didn’t look too closely at the Tim Janus part. I am sorry about that. I honestly do not pay too much attention to the MLE events and wasn’t aware of what Tim did or did not do. I don’t even know what “FEDs” are. I suppose it means MLE and its eaters, probably a reference to “Federation”. But I do agree with at least this part of the statement:

take it easy on her. […] she does something that is an established amount, doen previously and can be done again and it is no good?

“Fed” was the name I gave the ifoce/mle to acknowledge them, w/out acknowledging them, when I ran speedeat.com. It appears to have stuck.

GJoe is a man of his beliefs, doesn’t flip-flop and has tempered his edges since speedeat. He is doing very well indeed as an independent eater.

The reason why some people dont like him is because the truth hurts and they know that most of the time he is telling it like it which happens to be the truth
