It seems kind of sad that Kobayashi is eating turkey with the stated goal to surpass Sonya’s record set yesterday. It actually means and proves nothing. He seems somewhat lost in the eating world at present, not sure where to go and what to do. His talent is huge but without consistent sponsorship, without contacts and fluent English, I am not sure how much he can accomplish. I used to think that he might work things out with MLE but not any longer and that is a shame for him. They do not need him to spark things up or pace Joey, they have branched out and gone beyond. Timing is everything.

The poor guy has certainly gotten hard up for attention (considering his initiative to eat turkey by himself tonight). I honestly believe he could set a record if he ate in a sanctioned contest, but this thing tonight is suspect and unofficial, at best.
It’s also interesting that he waits until after the fact and then tries to break the record, versus vice-versa.
I guarantee the record will be “broken” tonight, as he’s already got a Plan A and a Plan B, to give the appearance that he accomplished his goal —- a record that won’t be recognized.
I still remember a few years ago when he attempted to break Sonya’s fruitcake record, and unsuccessfuly bit off more than he could chew, and that was a sanctioned attempt.
I really don’t like this chapter in Koby’s CE career, because he was once my all-time favorite eater, and I want to continue being a super big fan, but the tide of my enthusiasm is starting to ebb.

Kobayashi is expected to compete in Wing Bowl 20, which should be officially announced soon.

I wonder if he will really go.

I wonder too. Wingbowl is usually fixed though it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t win if he did go. They would be hard pressed to find someone to beat him honestly, and it would give them something new. But the contest itself isn’t really the main event anyway. Even if he does compete, it is sad that that might be one of his few ways to earn some money.

Kobi has nobody to blame but himself and his “handler.” He made a power move for more money and it clearly isn’t working particularly with the number of contests MLE is conducting now. He could of made at least a grand a week, not counting fees, since he’s one of the only eaters without a job other than eating. Sad? Sure. But, it’s also kind of selfish, especially when he goes around with his “Free Kobi” crap and blaming others when it was his own decision based on more cash flow to him. The contract issue was just a front to cover his thinking that he was more special than other top eaters. The contracts just protect the sponsor from eaters eating competitor’s products. Regarding Wing Bowl, here’s the script. Kobi wins this year, maybe even next year. Then Squibb, the local boy, beats him in a stunning over time victory. Ask Sonya and the boat load of plates they threw out because the bones weren’t “clean.” It’s a story Angelo wrote before and the only one who don’t know it’s fixed is Squibb and El Wingador.

Wingador is clueless and still believes he was cheated last year. Did he really lose by one wing? Hell no, he lost by a shitload of wings . I was in the stands and can honestly say that there were several faster eaters. That Canadian guy, Almost Rich, the mailman, Tiger Wings & I think the Cannon. I apologize for not knowing their full names. El Wingador ate very slow. His elbows rested on the table as he ate slowly, looking around to see what others were doing. I hope the battle is as intense but it seems inevitable that the fix is in.

The average American has heard of, recognizes, and continues to hear news about Kobayashi whether it is a competition, exhibition or a stunt… he gets the press. Some of the posters on here apparently drink MLE’s kool-aid or just aren’t willing to accept the fact Kobi even as a independant has been and still continues to be the most popular competitive eater of all time. The dull guy named Joey is never going to be as popular or sought after by the press. Who would draw more attention side by side in a autograph session? Be honest….

Kobi is a legend. As most people age they will recall him as such. Younger and younger people will identify with the top male and female eaters they see on July 4th. Kobi is no longer there.

Stick 18-20 year olds next to Joey, Sonya and Koby and see who they identify with more. It won’t be Koby, and as younger comp. eating fans emerge, Koby’s popularity will further erode as long as he stays outside of recognized professional eating.
