Team Chestnut taking applications
The weekly philly.com Wing Bowl column says that Joey Chestnut has available tickets and is taking applications for his entourage.
Chestnut, 23, who set a record last year with 173 wings, is coming in from San Jose, Calif., for the sold-out circus at Wachovia Center and needs a few people “to be part of Team Chestnut.” E-mail your name, contact info and why you deserve a slot on his entourage to VallejoJoey@aol.com.

If you saw the movie the bronx tale towards the beginning where the kid tells Sonny about Mickey Mantle . If you saw the movie you will understand where im coming from. I dont feel like typing the quotes but if anyone wants me to elaborate i might.

Joey Chestnut has proven that he is the best American eater ever to sit at a competitive eating table. No one else can hold a spoon to him, let alone a candle, to include yesterday’s self-proclaimed “greats.” Look at their totals and look at Joey’s. He has a right to have a Chip on his shoulder. He is the best there’s ever been and he knows it.
But in Wing Bowl. Others do have a chance.

Also remember, he’s trying to build an entourage to compete with the other eaters and he’s from California, so he doesn’t have the luxury of having all of this friends and family there like most other competitors. CAn’t blame the guy for wanting to put on a show. In fact, I’m glad he is. If I didn’t have tix already, I’d sign up to be on his squad.

It would be shame if he doesn’t get taken care of by several of the seedier wingettes. They should have to prove their worth, like a casting couch. Both Boy King & Mad Stork are right. Get what you can, cuz everyone they’re not givin’ it away. Particularly the Shea’s.

Joey has some extra tickets and he doesn’t want them to go to waste so he is making a considerate gesture and offer to anyone who wants to get in to Wing Bowl and see the action first hand.
If he is going to invite random people in to his entourage (every Wing Bowl member is alloted tickets for their entourage) it makes sense for him to want to know who they are and what their motivations are first. I think it is a pretty admirable act by Joey, not a selfish or ego-driven act at all.

Why do you guys hate on the Man? Joey is not ego-driven or selfish. None of this has went to his head even though if it was me it would have. Joey is the best right now in America he’s kicking ass and taking names and I wish I had an airline ticket to wingbowl because I’d be on his team no questions asked.

I adore and love the man. I applaud arrogant people who can back up their words. Joey is simply the vest at both.
He is the Muhammed Ali of Competitive Eating, I find it extra nice of him that he is saving those tickets for others around the country, as opposed to giving them away to family and friends in California. That’s classy.
