    The contest was predictable and boring enough without having to watch it over and over.

    Sad but true most events are boring especially without some of the guys like Crazy Legs, Super Paul and a few others. Problem is there’s no money for them guys most of the time. I don’t get why these eaters spend thousands of dollars to promote the sport and make the Sheas rich all the while get nothing in return except some media. WOW Big Deal!! The Sheas make out like bandits!!! They get there money and no one out side of the top ten get’s anything.. There should only be top twenty ranked eaters the rest shouldn’t waste their time showing up!!

    Nate, those eaters are obviously getting SOMETHING, or else they wouldn’t participate in the contests.

    Keep in mind, there are other rewards besides financial compensation. Some guys (myself included) are just competition junkies who love a good challenge (the excitement is similar to an amusement park thrill ride…and no one gets paid to ride those). For some table-enders who don’t have a chance at winning, the competition is internal (beating a personal best) or it’s between his fellow table enders.

    The thrill of performing in front of a large crowd is pretty cool too and that’s one thing the IFOCE delivers pretty consistently. Some guys also just like being a part of the fraternity of eaters. Hanging out at competitions and meeting new and old friends is its own reward.

    How much those intangible benefits are worth depends on the person. I myself have a low tolerance when it comes to travelling long distances for contests. Others are willing to drive 8 hours to eat at the end of the table.

    I didn’t think the contest was boring at all. Yes, it was very, very predictable, but not boring.

    As a matter of fact, the emcee, Mike, made it very entertaining. I liked the introductions more than the contest itself, because the order of finish of the top five was EXACTLY as I predicted.

    With IFOCE contests, the question is very rarely about who will win. It’s trying to anticipate the totals that makes the contest worth watching. But there will soon be a “changing of the guard” in the IFOCE ranks, because the top three will be Koby, Pat, and Joey.

    Sonya proved in that contest that the change in rankings after Nathan’s (putting her behind X) was a travesty. This is especially true given that the pizza contest used “no dunking” rules, making it more legitimate than when an eater gets to “bend” the standards by dissolving the bread in a cup of liquid before swallowing. But because of the rankings bias against her, I would be shellshocked to see Sonya move higher than she is right now.

    Whatta ya mean we get nothing?? I was given a hat, two aprons, a carrying bag, and a big soup ladle for my appearance on Fox TV. Also, someone at work said ” Was that you I saw acting like an idiot on TV?”…..and the checkout lady at the grocery store gave me double coupons (ok, it was double coupon day- but she did give me a -aren’t-you-that-guy-on-TV-slowly-eating-jalapenos-look…hubba hubba)….ahhhh, fame….and more than 27 people checked out my website. Some things you just can’t put a price on!

    Rankings Bias? Are you high?! Can it be argued that Sonya should be number four? Sure it can. Can someone else reasonably argue that Janus should be number four? Absolutely. The travesty, is that Chestnut is ranked ahead of Kobayashi based on ONE contest that he was questionable to even compete in, with jawthritis.

    Joey over Koby is another wrong turn. Even though Sonya has only one or two more wins than Janus in her career I have to give an eversoslight edge to sonya. Shes a pretty fair female eater.
