Larry “the Legend” McNeil updated his rankings of the top 20 eaters on Saturday in his myspace blog. His top 5:

1. Joey Chestnut
2. Sonya Thomas
3. Pat Bertoletti
4. Bob Shoudt

    What does all of this personal information have to do with Larry’s updated rankings? Let me be the first to address that issue.

    I think Larry is right on through the top 8 — 6, 7, and 8 are Janus, LeFevre, and Booker. My own opinion — and you know what is said about opinions — is that Mr. Koch is way too high at # 9 and Pat Philbin and Hall Hunt should be higher than where they currently are. Anyway good job — better than I could do I’m sure.

    It will be very interesting to see the contests involving Tim, Pat B, and Chip, because I think those three are essentially of equal talent. Sonya is improving to a still higher level and Joey deserves to be where he’s at — # 1. I doubt Sonya will ever beat Joey in dogs and such, because those aren’t her forte. But in fast foods and seafood she is as good as Joey.

    Sonya confuses me in wings, because she has done extremely well in the past, but sometimes her mind is not on her game. Can’t figure.

    I think it is a shame what happened to Lerman’s sisters dog but what does any of this have to do with competitive eating. By posting this on his site he is bringing personal family issues into the arena which have no business being there in the first place. Lerman has ever right to post whatever he wants on his website but if he is expecting sympathy comments from everyone he might be in for a big letdown because there are some that that wont send a condolence if a human being passes let alone a dog. If Lerman’s actual intention of posting that was a test just to see how many caring or sympathetic people there are out there, then i am sorry to say he might be wasting his time. Without sounding like a “wiseass” i think that his comment stating that he is devoting a jalapeno contest to the deceased family pet is unintentionally poking fun at the matter whether he realizes it or not.

    Lerman you are more of a disgrace than i thought you were. You had to call on the services of your sister and Krazy Kevin to fight your battles for you. Are you a man or a mouse?. I am totally appalled at your behavior. I dont care one way or another if you win the jalapeno contest.

    Don – Good Luck in that contest. I respect you the same whether you win or lose. You don’t have to prove yourself as far as I’m concerned. You’ve already done that.

    Larue, Reeves, Carr & Subich are not included in his stupid rankings which is more of a reason to ignore this posting. Instead he includes El toro and andrew lane who couldnt even put away a pound of food.

    Hey GTFS, it’s The Legends Poll, and it makes sense to me. It’s easy to bitch and moan, but Larry has taken the initiative to to something constructive. You’re sitting on the periphery and simply criticizing. My brother’s kids do that all the time. So when I read posts such as yours I feel Aunt Rhonda is away for a family visit.
