The article raises some well founded points. MLE is/was wise to not have Pete on their roster. Someone gave other reasons as if they knew the inside scoop, I do not buy that for a second. Sheas run their own show period.

Its an interesting article. I’ve never heard of “competitive eating” described as an eating disorder. Pete admits that he vomits after contests – and often restricts solid food intake – but not everyone involved in CE does that.

I wonder if the author would classify religious fasting (or medical fasting) as an eating disorder, since participants there typically restrict food intake for hours at a time and then engage in mass eating.

I’d raise the same question vis-a-vis athletes who go through a big performance and then “eat like hell” afterwards. I’m talking about runners, swimmers, bodybuilders, and others. I’ve read about powerlifters eating upwards of 10,000 calories per day.

If your body legitimately uses what you eat, I don’t think you’d be in a position to term those eating behaviors as disorders. I knew some construction workers and movers who ate tons of food everyday just because they were constantly working.

In the film Pete mentions that he vomits after contests if he feels bad enough but often that is not the case, I don’t think that argument is solid enough in the article.

If you watch the full length version the Shea’s say some interesting things for camera.
