Washington Post Science of Competitive Eating Article
Less than two weeks after their long profile of Sonya Thomas, the Washington Post has another lengthy article about competitive eating focusing on the anatomical aspects of competitive eaters. Don “Moses” Lerman, “Crazy Legs” Conti, Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman, and AICE rising star Ian Hickman are all quoted. Hickman moved to Sterling in northern Virginia to be closer to more eating contests which is interesting because the AICE schedule around the DC area does not seem full enough to justify a relocation.
Corrected 11/29 10:53 pm – Ian Hickman states in the comments his main reason for moving east was not to be closer to eating contests.

Ok just got the scoop! Badlands is interested in trying the monster pizza on route back home from Atlantic city Dec 4th . He can pick from some great eaters such as Bubba, Eater X, Subich or Bob Shoudt . I don’t think i would finish my share so it wouldn’t be fair to him. I will be there to snap pics. Hope it happens.

I’ll start by saying great site. I am glad to see that both AICE and IFOCE members are showcased on here and not exclusively one particular organization. I did want to say that I moved to Sterling for job responsibilities not to participate in more eating events. If that were the case, I would definitely move towards the NY/NJ area since that seems to be the hub for the sport. I have been fortunate enough to be sponsored by AICE to participate in their sanctioned events despite my previous or current locations. However, plane tickets are a little more reasonable and taking the train is even cheaper. Interesting… Thanks.

It is a great site isn’t it. I love all of the random facts and stories that are found. I think the only person that spends as much time on the computer besides them looking up the information is myself and others like me reading it.
Ian, I have heard good things about you putting some good numbers in eating contests. Keep it up. By the way…What are the details of the steak challenge in Kentucky? I am thinking about hitting that up when I have some free time. PS If anyone knows about any more in the south, please share.

I am going to assume that is Hall Hunt and so I will continue with thanks for the comment. I have a passion for the sport and do plan on competing in more events with hope to improve. My previous job prevented my attendance at many eating competitions so now I am in pursuit for that Monday-Friday, 9-5’er. But seriously, congrats with your own records. Those are impressive numbers with the grilled cheeses and also the Krystal burgers. I grew up with Krystals in Chattanooga and would love such an event. I can tell you, in regards to the steak challenge, the restaurant is named Reno’s Roadhouse. They have locations across the tri-state area however the one I would eat at (Nicholasville) recently closed its doors. Go to their website and locations/details should be posted. Good luck.
