Wing Bowl 15 odds released on philly.com

Wing Bowl 15 odds have been posted at philly.com. The top 10 favorites are:

Patrick Bertoletti, Chicago, IL, 190 lbs., 2-1 odds
Joey Chestnut, San Jose, CA, 230, 3-1
Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, Alexandria, VA, 105, 3-1
Dave “Dr. Winglove” Inderbitzin, Conshohocken, 175, 4-1
“Humble” Bob Shoudt, Royersford, 265, 5-1
Rich “The Locust” LeFevre, Henderson, NV, 132, 5-1
Eric “Steakbellie” Livingston, Drexel Hill, 230, 7-1
ChipBurger Simpson, Gainesville, FL, 200, 7-1
“Damaging” Doug Canavin, Philadelphia, 345, 9-1
Micah “Wing Kong” Collins, Drexel Hill, 265, 10-1

It is hard to believe that Dr. Winglove is a bigger favorite than Rich LeFevre (who beat Dr. Winglove handily in Wing Bowl 14) and Bob Shoudt.

Those odds are real cute and keep things interesting for the locals. If the eaters were credited for eating all wings, and simply “allowed to eat, here’s how I would list the odds:

    Joey Chestnut: 2 – 1
    Sonya Thomas 3 – 1
    Pat Bertoletti: 4-1
    Rich LeFevre: 6-1
    Chip Simpson 8-1
    Humble Bob: 9 – 1
    Dr. Winglove: 25 – 1
    Steakbellie: 30 – 1
    Wing Kong: 50 – 1
    Damaging Doug: 60 – 1
    All others: A MINIMUM of 80 – 1

If there is even a hint of legitimacy to this at all, someone in the top four that I listed will win this thing. I have no confidence, beyond that, however, to even guess who that might be.

If they weighed the wings, Sonya would drive away in a new car, hands down. I mean she ate 175 wings in 10 minutes in 2005. In 30 minutes, she would eat a minimum of 220-even if the meat didn’t come off the bone as easily as the Verizon wings did in Bethesda-as most other great eaters would exhaust their capacity at around the 200 level, save Rich, Joey, and Pat. I know this is all heresay, but it does help put things in perspective, at least for me.

I agree very much with what BB put in his WB comentary, by the way. He’s pretty much spot-on!

    Good assessment Brian!

If Winglove can eat 170 + wings he may have a chance.

I agree with BB Seiken in his updated Wing Bowl XV commentary, whereby he proclaims that Sonya is the one to beat outright. He is spot-on. She is a crafty, talented, awesome competitor who has been there twice.

And the Black Widow ate the equivalent of 184 wings (5.75 lbs X 16 oz / .5 oz {weight of 1 wing} in 10 minutes in Bethesda a bit over a year ago during the Verizon qualifier. As such, if she can’t eat close to that many in 30 minutes, even with WB rules, something is rotten in Pennsylvania!

Nevertheless the winner “should” be either Joey OR Sonya. And I believe last year’s first place total will be exceeded. Pat is a GREAT eater, but he’s unproven in wings. Plus, he may be distracted by the scenery, being that this is his first WB appearance. Rich will be right there close by.

Who’s the idiot that thinks Winglove can maintain the same pace throughtout the entire contest?

In general, the odds are just a way for the radio personalities to have a good time and shouldnt be taken too seriously. That being said, I dont think this version is too far off. I like Pat and Joey for a shootout in the end, and I predict them breaking the 200 wing barrier.

I would swap Bob and Winglove for the Philly favorites. and even boost Bob up for a possible sweep of both cars. Lets remember, this is a HOME GAME for him, and he’s been on a serious tear for the last 12 months!

As far as the Wechter Cup, I’m highly confident Team Steakbellie has the best float this year…possibly the best float EVER.

as far as wings go, I’ll let my eating to the talking at the table (even though my mom told me not to talk with my mouth full)…..theres just toooo much talent for me to talk junk.

    Best of Luck everyone!

Winglove will not have a shot with 170. Did anyone see him boot in his last two stunts? My guess is Humble, obviously as a local and Sonya (with her fast hands, and having close losses lately) to win as a IFOCE member (this is my prediction of results, not necessarily how they did). I am still pulling for Steak in the shocker of the centuary.

is there no love for winglove out there? how crippling.
don’t beleive the hype. i don’t see any philly guy blowing the pros out of the water, but the philly contingent should be interesting. having eaten against damaging doug, he could put up sick numbers if he figures out how to clean a bone. as for bob, he’s a pro and from philly, so he’s got that going for him . . .which is nice. either way, don’t count out the little guy. i’m in it to skin it!

Humble Bob “should” not be in the top 3. Chip Simpson can eat circles around him in wings and I guarantee that in a legit contest would, will, and has finished ahead of Shoudt. Now Shoudt that out.

Not only that but Chip Simpson also beat Sonya Thomas at last year’s Buffalo Wing Festival. Doesn’t that make him the current IFOCE wing champ…Chip is pretty good but not great eater yet but he does excel in things such as wings and ribs. Give the man a little credit. In actuality, if this were a legit contest it would probably be Chesnut-Simpson 1-2 and very close between them.

—– Chip MAY very well win Wing Bowl, but he does not have the record for 12 minutes OR 10 minutes. Those are Sonya’s. Additionally, Chip’s stomach capacity is smaller than Sonya, Joey, or Pat B. However, it would not really surprise me to see Wing Bowl promoters crown him king.

Humble Bob surely represented Philly well in Wing Bowl. The fans deserve him.
