Years ago, Kobi could of attended Wing Bowl with the MLE. He didn’t because he knew Joey, let alone Sonya, would beat him. Now, he attends Wing Bowl knowing there’s no MLE threat. And, don’t tell me it was really because he was based in Nagano at the time. He flew in for other high paying events that he thought he had a shot at. That pretty much settles the Joey v. Kobi debate at least for wings. Don’t tell me MLE banned Kobi. He had every chance to sign with MLE (on better terms than most I might add) and attend more events than he attends now. He quit MLE because he knew in most foods Joey would beat him and he wouldn’t get the attention he wanted. It’s all about Kobi and using the sponsors to promote Kobi. And, that year he quit MLE, he was basing himself out of New York, he knew he couldn’t use being out of the country as an excuse. Free Kobi? I can’t believe people actually bought that spin. Oh, and one more thing, did you ever notice that any article (i.e., People Magazine) is more about Kobi than it is about the event. If the article (Kobi’s entourage e.g.) even mentions the Wing Bowl, it’s predomently is about what a crap fest of humanity it is and Kobi’s people do nothing to correct that view of the Wing Bowl. That’s gotta drive Angelo crazy.

I should never read these things. It’s so ridiculous how silly people still are about this kid. What has Kobayashi ever really done to hurt anyone? From the fair amount of what I’ve seen and read, nothing. Even without picking at every detail, just simply.. he’s a stronger eater period. Always has been- even if I wasn’t his fan, It is obvious by the scores.
He ate way more wings than Joey ever came close to at Wing Bowl this year, so it wouldn’t have mattered whether he had done it before or after he left MLE (and wasn’t able to challenge MLE eaters anymore). Besides, MLE is the one who won’t let their eaters be in Wing Bowl.. not Kobi. If they want to see who wins, they should simply allow their eaters to take part.
What other food has Joey ever beat Kobi in besides hot dogs? Nothing. Not one thing. Whether he ate 69 or 64 or 66 hot dogs last year.. and whether or not it was on the Coney Island stage or not- he still ate more than 62, which was Joey’s score.
    Plain and simple, he won.
He hasn’t changed a bit. Still the same kid with the same talent, challenging himself to go farther.. new things at different times in his life. I don’t see any reason for people to create these bad stories about him.
A winner isn’t just about “winning”. It’s a total package of personality and the insides to match the performance. He’s an honest kid with passion to match that talent. He can go on to do other things.. Joey on the other hand, comes in first place, and still Kobi would get the bigger applause.. I remember that a few years ago. That says something.
Kobi is acting on what he can do and not making excuses. A kid has something to say, he takes action- then people get pissed. YOU PEOPLE certainly have things to say.. why is it so bad for this kid to stand up for himself or take every opportunity? He has obviously taken big risks. That’s the challenge.. not the food competitions. In truth, Kobi had more to lose than anyone by leaving that place. He obviously had good reason to do it. He’s going after it and things are coming to him. That’s karma. Everything is magnetic. What you serve is what you get. He’s going to go far and I cheer him on. The rest of you poopers and whiners can just sit back and watch while you’re left there sulking about someone else’s life.
    Props to him.

PS. Angelo loves the kid. Obviously you haven’t heard or seen what he has said. Who cares if the press bases stories on Kobi instead of the competitions? They use what sells. It was always that way with Nathan’s too.. I only ever saw the titles revolving around, “Who will beat Kobayashi?” or “Will Kobayashi get his title back?”.. it was never simply about, “Who will win Nathan’s?” The kid brought so much fame to that game. They branded their competition with his name for a reason.. he’s obviously through with it. For whatever detailed reasons we may not all understand- it is pretty clear that there was something unfair going on.. and a kid willing to break out like that (I believe), would only do it for a good reason. I choose to feel from what I see and guess.. I don’t understand how many people can look at that plastic Shea face and sincerely believe his scripted talk anyways. He just simply looks like a liar to me.

Fredrick I love what you said, it was awesome and Joey Chestnut is cringing as he reads it.

What else has Joey beaten “the kid” (he’s 34, by the way) in? Let’s see – Shrimp wontons in 2010, Krystals in 2009, whole turkeys in 2008, CHICKEN WINGS in 2008.

Get your facts straight. Also, eating hot dogs under controlled, AIR CONDITIONED conditions with no competition is a whole lot different than doing it out in the sun in front of 30000 people, not to mention the controversy surrounding that little stunt.

What a bunch of morons! Your arguing about nothing. IT’S COMPETITIVE EATING for Gods sake, one step up from wresteling. Joey and Kobi are the two best in the world with pat and a few others close by, end of story! Jeepers grow up will you?

R u serious? Kobi is one of the all time greats…..Sonya beat him in wings? Joey? Looks like his total was more than either of theirs…..what is there to argue. Kobi looks forward to the challenge of a great competition…..he is an honorable eater and for him to be painted as a coward is a farce. Ifoce just didn’t want to pay to have him flown in for wing bowl period. Get your stuff straight negative spin master. It was and always will be a money issue between Ifoce and Kobi that is the bottom line.

    …oh sad again.
shrimp wontons (Joey cheated in Singapore, dropped all his food as usual- oops!), Krystals (Kobi beat him in Chattanooga, smothering him while getting back the champion belt in 2009-last game) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF_H2bgLXcE, whole turkeys he killed him with his last record at Thanksgiving of 2011.. AND wings, 337 at Wing Bowl XX. . need I say more? He beat all those records.

and 2011 was in no air conditioned environment. It was on a rooftop in the blazing sunlight.. trust, it was not cool, except for the fact that he whipped Coney Island’s ass. yea, that was pretty “cool”.
controversy? .. hmmm, like I said, wouldn’t have mattered which number of those they chose- he still ate more than 62…
and he would have done it on any stage. Kobayashi was in it that day to win it. The look on his face said a thousand words and the conditions in the audience were not controlled; there were pests there to bitch about the number and make sure they were Nathan’s hot dogs and the cooking from the beginning.. besides the fact that it would have been horrible if he hadn’t won after setting up a stage like that- I’m SURE there was a lot of risk and pressure. Not to mention, the press sitting there watching everything. There was no cheating, I can assure you as one fan watching like a hawk.

Either way, just by looking at them, it’s easier to dicipher which is the athlete and a human being worth watching.
People choose, the press choose how to write their stories.. I think the natural evolution of how they’ve branded him shows what they knew would sell. At the end of the day, even the people who don’t like him, talk about him.. see? you do it too.. and
that’s just my point. Nobody really cares about the other dude or his score. He’s not even interesting at best.
Richard L’Fevre is interesting.. he’s cool too. I watch him more than caring about who comes in first if Kobi isn’t there.
It’s not what you do, it’s HOW you do it- and THAT my friend, is what sells. I just want to watch and be a fan of a person worth watching and a story that keeps moving. Both of them give me that and inspire me.
I’m outtie and already dislike myself for having written twice on this crap.
