Patrick Vandam, 1983 – 2010
Gerald Vandam made the following comment last night:
I’m Patrick’s dad, he passed away freediving at a place called the Crater located in Midway UT. He was practicing for the US National freediving championships in Kona HI to be held at the end of April. He had done a few dives on the 17th of March, the last free dive was for 6 minutes and 30 seconds and stated he was going to be down a little longer on the next and his last dive. We suspect he passed on the way up on his last dive.

Now OJ Rifkin can boast an obituary colum to his great blog. Seems kind of strange that someone who never personally met a competitive eater now has a monopoly on everyone and everything involved in the sport including their obituaries

Have to say that I have read some tasteless comments on this blog in the past, but I appreciate the right to voice an opinion, no matter what it is.
With that said, the comment left by anon. 1:46 is just ignorant. First of all no one makes you come on this blog if you find it annoying, but to diminish the courtesy shown by the Vandam family for releasing the statement and to Eatfeats for posting it and allowing people to understand what happened to Patrick is just plain ugly.
