    Unbelievable finish. JOEY!!!!!!

Koby had the last HDB in his hand at the 10:00 mark, pulled it away and then put in it his mouth. It shouldn’t have counted toward his 59.

  9. jumby said

    July 4, 2008 @ 1:03 pm

that was complete BS match, koby won, it was soo clear at the end, it also seemed like chesnut had a reversal of fortune, cause at the end, he had white food chunk liquid smeared over his lips. KOBY won, that was absolutley ridicoulous, im so pissed.

who cares. The standout was Dr bigtime. He is the only eater worthy of taking off his shirt and showing off his chest. The others have no muscle and no chest. Anyone can hold in their stomach and say look at me! You can exhale now

You’re right, it was BS. But we disagree on how and why it’s BS. Joey chipmunked the 59th HDB. Koby had food in his hand, not his mouth, which he was allowed to put in his mouth after the 10 minute mark.

To Love Bigtime…….this is CE, not bodybuilding. How someone looks is not a factor. A.D.D. must suck, when you can’t stay on topic.

I agree. The eat-off was unnecessary. Koby clearly did not have the final hot dog in his mouth at the buzzer. But at least the ultimate outcome was not affected. Congratulations, Joey.

They were both definitely pushing the limits at the buzzer. But, I agree. Kobyashi definitely had food in his hand which he removed from in front of his mouth, looked at and then put into his mouth… all after the buzzer.

And, yeah, Anon 1:38. Koby certainly looked more comfortable at the end, but as Mike L. said, its not about looks…

    Congrats to Joey.

In a perfect world, the hdb in Kobys hand would not count, and the judges would looked at the debris left by Koby and deducted hdbs. Since it was such a high profile event they had to go into a tie breaker to keep the uninitiated from crying foul. Congrats, Joey on a triple confirmed victory

In 1990 and 1978, it was declared a tie. In 1980 an eat off was held and the contest remained tied after the eat off so a tie was also declared.

  25. Carey said

White bun debris means a reversal?

Koby had AT LEAST one HDB in his hand after the buzzer, and he had to take multiple bites at it to get it in his mouth. They shouldn’t have gone into overtime.

Next year, put a rule into effect saying that you can’t have your hand in front of your mouth after the buzzer. Hands are not an extension of your mouth.

Great show! Joey got a split second head start at the beginning but even as a Koby fan I have to agree that the handful of HDB he down after the buzzer shouldn’t have counted.

How annoying was the on screen HDB counter being completely wrong compared to the real action?

I like Carey’s hands free rule. That’s a no brainer that should be in place for all MLE contests.

Pat don’t worry about being a rat. BTW it rhymes so go for it. It’s long overdue that some of these cheaters who pose as eaters( boy i should have been a poet and i know it) just want to brag about finishing ahead of someone for personal reasons. Maybe they got cut from the baseball team in high school or were told they would never amount to anything in life. Anyone that has hot dog buns stuffed under their plates should be ashamed of themselves. I dont believe some of those low end totals. It appears that certain eaters got shafted. What an outrage!

..and let me clarify, that whole hot dog and bun I saw under the table could’ve just fallen off the table, as opposed to anyone willfully cheating, my point is the judges in the pit don’t have the vantage point to see stuff like that, especially in the finals the focus is on the two man show.

A lot of movement in the Best Dressed Eater Ranking halfway consideration mental prep for the final poll later this year:

Tim Brown – A Cubs fan celebrating what I hope will finally be our year!! That could be the strangest, but most creative headgear of the year – Since the camera only showed him for five seconds, I need pictures to truly appreciate his whole ensemble. But, it looks like a big winner.
Kevin Ross – How debonair was that? Not as crazy as Tim’s helmet, but A+ for thinking outside the box, and a great ironic “fine dining” statement, or perhaps it was “James Bond goes to Coney Island”…one that will be etched in the Eater Outfit Hall of Fame..Kevin’s eating totals may be been shaken but not stirred, but his outfit certainly stirred up the crowd.
Arturo Rios – Funny!! I loved the coat, and the giant boom box. He was off the hook! Just what I was hoping for – only problem, his long entrance threw off everyone else, so that made it hard to see what anyone else did after that.
Pretty Boy – Pete and I had this discussion in Atlanta. He needed to add more than just a hat, and he did…was that Ryan’s jacket he “borrowed”?
Deep Dish – Suits (A LA LERMAN), especially purple suits, always make the man!!
Nasty Nate – added something, again the cut off camera time made it hard to evaluate…but an effort to impress always impresses!
Pat Philbin, and Rich – Their natural handsomeness is always enough
Kobayashi – Condiment head, with a champion’s heart…he lost by a mouthful, but added much needed “mustard” to the contest. His biggest problem, we see him twice a year, typically, so Krystals will have to be another eyeful.
Dr. Bigtime – Women across the country swooned as the Dr. flexed, and somewhere, SkinnyBoy Lane is saying “mine are better”. First time that no clothes added to a Best Dressed outfit!
Humble Bob – the towel over the head was probably functional, but it added 2 and1/2 points to his Humble stature.
Juliet – Just a beautiful lady, flat out….I don’t care what she wore.
Sonya – World’s biggest smile always moves her up the rankings, and she stays in the Top 5 in dogs consumed – a champion in all polls for the ages.
Hall Hunt – solid with the eyeblack, as always-and I like the changing words….but, the eyeblack is becoming expected ( like Eater X facepaint ). A case of the unusual being predictable – once you set a standard, you’ve got to beat it….welcome to my world!
Eater X – It ‘s his trademark, so changes have to come in subtle ways. Tim takes third in the real contest…he stays a top five eater, and top five dresser.
Badlands – It looks good just to see him represented!
Crazy Legs – the man told me he was going to concentrate on the food, and again, his hat is becoming a regular statement. Still, the powder blue went well with the meal, like a fine wine. Gloves a nice touch – I believe between him and I, the glove thing will catch on – it is not only interesting, it’s functional when dipping into mysterious warm beverages.
Joey – A yellow Mustard Belt, the battle scars of bun across his face, the angst of his eating expressions….there’s always a place for the World’s Best Eater in the Best Dressed List.
Allen – refuses to become a slave to fashion, this may be a fashion statement in itself. Patrick VanDam must have consulted him for clothing tips.
Finally, if anyone has more pictures that show off the eater “gear” and entrances, I’d love to see it, and absolutely need it to defend my final rankings in the fall against EatFeats anonymouses.
BIG POINT: One contest does not a year make, even the arguably biggest contest of the year – A lot of eaters that hadn’t done squat in this department stepped up…now you gotta keep it up!! (that’s what she said). Hope you all got to see my “bacon-enhanced” outfit from the past few days, in my minor league Atlanta radio bacon eating contest with Bubba……I’m not just a judge, I’m also a proud member. Stay beautiful!

Oops, forgot Erik the Red – see, the predictable does sometimes becomes the not-so-rememberable, especially to aging, brain-dead judges. Like, Sonya and Janus, Erik is a solid performer in food, and fashion. Semi-sideburns add 1/2 point.

CE needs to use Dr. S’s angle! If you other fuckers are jealous, suck it up!

I agree with Furious Pete Kobe won but the Sheas have to keep it interesting and keep Chestnut on top.
It makes you wonder was Kobe’s jaw really hurt last year or was it just a ploy to keep excitement in there organization.

Before I forget congrats to furious Pete on his burger championship.

Dr S got what it takes while the others give in to the temptation of food. It takes alot of discipline for him to achieve his fine tuned body. Everyone should use the Dr as a role model instead of giving into your eating disorders and i dont mean anorexia or bulemia

All you morons who think CE is akin to bodybuilding probably watch football just to swoon over Terrell Owens. Juris has a great build, but the sport is Competitive Eating. His entrance was noteworthy, but you get judged on numbers, not a judge’s opinion of your look. No one has downplayed his physique, which he has worked his ass off to attain, but you idiots get offended by anyone saying his build doesn’t come into play at a hot dog eating contest. Luckily for the other eaters, the sport is judged by numbers. If you want to see a sport judged by looks, go to a real bodybuilding show.

Correction NECN does not show the video in its entirety. BB.com at last check has the entire show plus introductions

This was a great comp! Bundden Death! I’ve read (most) of the posts and I think we’ve woven the threads of vanity and personal feelings into this a lil too far…but its a free country. Big Props to the X man for putting up some high numbers….Not so hi for Bertoletti, but he’s chewed(kicked) sooo much ass this year it really does’nt matter if he has an off day. Koby was on fire, but he couldn’t beat Joey, who despite the pain and obviousness of his discomfort, bulled through, willful and patriotic ingestion.
The head to head action was unrivaled in CE history. R Shea’s bite by bite comentary was the best I’ve ever heard on a broadcast CE event… once again a shame that G Shea could not be heard on the TV’s of the millions watching around the world. The ESPN guys are truly lost this whole day….why are they there? Thier comentary was poor at best. Just let the Shea’s handle all the broadcasting… I say. The delay on the entrances as stated previously was a frustrating audio/ visual mishcalanze.
