2008 Wookey Hole mince pie winner misses record by 5
The Telegraph reports that Denzil Gunner, a 30 year old solicitor from London, won a prize of £1,000 at today’s mince pie eating contest at Wookey Hole Caves in England. Gunner’s mark of 41 pies in 10 minutes missed the record Sonya Thomas set in 2006 by five pies.
It is not mentioned in the article if the pies used this year were the same size as the pies used two years ago. The pictures above from the Telegraph’s gallery show that the pies used in 2006 might have been larger.
The BBC also has an article.

That’s my daughters favorite eater. It’s a shame she doesn’t have a blog, since it’s not a wonder she stays away from posting here.

Who is Rhonda Evens and what are you talking about? What does H>P> stand for? By the way, are there any other women of competition eating besides Sonya?

Thanks for the link I. I already knew about that, and my daughter intends to e-mail her, but she would feel less awkward if there were a weblog available for Sonya and Badlands, but that isn’t the case it seems. Anyway, I’ve garnered all the useful information I can glean from this site. This is mostly a gossip column filled with conjecture and contempt that any self-respecting competition eater would not want to be part of. I don’t see any of the names I know and that’s unfortuanate, but relieving, that they apparently don’t stoop to such depths. I suspect that if they used their real names they would be accused of being someone else anyway.

One concerned father i picture you looking like Bob Saget from that old show full house. Geez i wish i had a dad that was just like you. Dont be so quick to scrutinize this site . Have you ever seen some of the comments on the aol message boards? It is filled with racism , profanity, and hate. OJ does a fairly if not better job than aol does of screening the comments. There are far worse message boards than eatfeats.com and that you can take to the bank

There seems to be a need for a separate womens league. There is no way that a woman can compete fairly against a man in anything physical. There should be weight categories too. The women must get laughed out the door in every contest. After a few minutes of eating the women have nothing left. Their stomachs and little bodies can’t take it like the men can.

Dear Dad,
A woman’s abdomen is built to accommodate a baby and a ton of amniotic fluid. I think you could just as convincingly argue that a woman is better endowed with the ability to gorge herself upon a giant meal than a man is. She is built to stretch. A man is not.
And a weight category? Why?!? Then eaters would starve themselves to shed pounds to make the lowest weight class possible, which in itself would be dangerous, and would open up competitive eating to even more critics.
Take a nap, Old Man. You’re delirious.

That makes no sense at all. As a matter of fact, I work in medicine and that is absolutely not true. The opposite is true. That is a cop out for men who set their goals higher than they should be.
