Houston gyros entrants listed before registration opens
IFOCE.com reports the 2009 Niko Niko’s World Gryo-Eating Championship will be held on May 16 in Houston and registration will begin today at 3pm eastern. The contest page already lists four expected entrants (Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti, Bob Shoudt, Erik Denmark) even though registration has not officially opened.

Agreed. I’m sure the top three names mentioned would have been prodded to be there, even if they didn’t submit their names. But I don’t blame the IFOCE for that, because, frankly, I think either of them, Joey, Pat, or Bob, have a chance to take top prize, which makes for high fan interest and good entertainment. I’d actually like to see Erik sneak into the top three.

I don’t blame them either. You need to have the big names out there because that is who the fans and the people putting on the event want to see.
