With all due respect to Conti, as I’m sure he’s a great guy and all but how can he or the IFOCE justify his #14 ranking?
He lost to 5 guys ranked lower then him and tied with a guy 10 rankings lower as well…

Was a great contest, great to chat with some of the eaters; Good crowd, most cheering for Joey. Good stuff, hope Dorney holds another contest next year.

Because Crazy legs is an excellent HDB eater and makes it to the big events frequently. And as we know Nathans accounts for a large majority of the rankings. Plus Crazy legs is a recognizable/marketable entity – plus a really nice guy. . .he deserves everything he gets from IFOCE and then some!
On another note, unless Lefevre officially announced a retirement, he should be on the rankings. It’s crazy, he’s one of the best eaters in the world! Lame he is inactive for a few months and is dropped so readily. He did the meatballs in november and did just fine! But maybe there is more going on there than I am aware of.

Lula was a fluke! What are you smoking Anonymous 6:49? Bob is not even in Joey’s league, or Koby’s league, or Pat’s league, or …………. shall I go on?

Looks like it was a good show. Not a lot of surprises in the results, although I have to agree with one of the earlier commenters that Crazy Legs is going to have to pull some bigger numbers in the non HDB contests to justify his ranking. He’s still a future Hall of Famer though.

His highest amount of HDB’s were 25 last year, each year prior he’s been between 18-24… you consider that an excellent HDB eater? The reason he makes the Big table each year is becuz the IFOCE pretty much creates a Qualifier soley for him.
in 09′ (heavy competition here)
http://eatfeats.com/query.php?_table=contests&id=2647
in 08′
can’t seem to find his qualifier in the eatfeats database.. did he even qualify or did they just give him a spot?
in 07′
http://eatfeats.com/query.php?_table=contests&id=612
If HDB weighs heavy on a persons rankings then why is
Gordon – 26 hdb
Reeves – 28.5 hdb
Philbin – 32 hdb
Davekos – 29 hdb
Marquez – 30 hdb
all ranked lower?
Again, I’m not stiring anything up here becuase he is a Legend and one of the most recgonizable faces and personas in the sport, but if the rankings are supposed to reflect an eaters talent and not his imagine then he doesn’t diserve to be where he’s ranked. That’s all.

2008 could be the qualifier that Crazy Legs was “set up with” at Saratoga Springs the previous year.
Just like the lame rankings, isn’t it funny how the lower ranked eaters are punished or warned about doing food challenges but if you’re top ten, it is OK? The IFOCE is full of double standards and the bs has to stop.

from an IFOCE email regarding the rules for this contest: “..you’ll have to eat the sandwiches as they are presented to you..”. I saw alot of crushing/molding going on in the video by the top 4 placers, that’s a BIG advantage over eating them “as presented” ..why bother with rules if they’re not going to be enforced??
anonymous said
May 2, 2010 @ 9:40 am
When they said “eat as presented to you” they meant no dunking, no condiments and no separating the meat & bun. Molding & crushing is still eating them as presented so they can be fit into mouth. Come on, you are getting picky Crusher.
OH MY GOD, has anybody seen that new Brian Seiken youtube video? He is a comedic genious

This was one of the few contests where there were virtually no complaints as far as cheating or making a mess which cost other eaters a money spot. The idea of other competitiors making side bets with each other as to who will personally beat who, makes a whole lot of sense because after the first 3or 4 finishers what do the rest have to look forward to as far as monetary compensation? I think it is an extra added incentive and should be applied to future contests. Prize fighters bet on themselves all the time

I wonder how messy it would be if IFOCE actually enforced the rules during the contests. How consistent would they be in enforcing the rules over all eaters? Would people accept contest results if, in fact, a couple of major eaters were ejected from a contest for “cheating?”

May 2, 2010 @ 12:59 pm
NReda, why the negativity on this post? This contest was the perfect scenario with the perefect results. A good field of eaters along the entire table, no mess anywhere and an easy as hell food to count (plates). Nobody cheated, no numbers could possibly be inflated and everyone had a great day.
I must say though, from watching the video, that it looks like Crazy Legs just stopped about the 7-8 minute mark and leaned back to watch Joey do his thing. Not the Crazy Legs we all love on this day

I wasn’t going negative about this contest.
I was just responding to all the posters who complain about “rule enforcement” and consistency from the IFOCE.
This was a pretty good contest.

This contest was a Text Book example of how every contest should be.
Sponsor: The sponsor promoted it on their homepage, radio and press releases. Signage throughout the park. 2 tix plus free parking for the Eaters, an all weather outdoor theater that was filled to overflow. Ample sponsor signage and shirts.
Crowd: Very warm reception and cheering! Lots of photos and autographs requested
Food: The cheesesteaks were presented 3x per plate and appeared to be extremely consistent in preparation. I think they did an admirable job keeping the bread from getting exposed considering how many they had to prepare.
Announcing: I like how Mike ran this contest. He was upfront with the rules ahead of time by email and then made sure that everyone was reminded in person. No dunking, no separating, no fooling around. Mike also had CLEAR cups for all the competitors. I LOVE this rule. Keeps everyone honest, and I think the eaters enjoy having a level playing field. Also making his co-host debut was David Thomas, he seems like a great guy and has a nice announcing voice. Welcome Dave!
Eaters: Love seeing my MLE family. I was seriously concerned I was going to come in last place with this lineup. Pretty Boi pushed me hard and I dont think I would have done so well if it were not for him. Steakbellie loves Pretty Boi.
On a personal note I prefer non-dunking picnic style contests like this for a few reasons. One is that I am a chewer and it’s nice when everyone else is forced to chew as well. The other is that I magically do better when we are all given clear cups! Clear cups from now on!
Mega Munch said

Clear cups. That’s a very smart rule. If the IFOCE is serious about enforcing the “don’t hide three or four hot dogs in your dunking cup” rule, then they’ll enact this simple change at every dunking contest in the future.

NO SHOT, Nathans is using their cups. The clear cups at cheesesteaks, although a great idea, sounds like a coincidence and will never happen again.
Steakbellie, you do not give yourself enough credit. You are a good eater and much better than that lame ass from Boston.
