In addition to previous named entrants, Eric “Steakbellie” Livingston, Yasir Salem, Brian Szontagh, Steve & Dee Martin and “Wild” Bill Myers are also expected to compete in today’s Nathan’s qualifier at Concord Mills at noon eastern time.

Anyone who wants a post-contest tourist activity might want to vist the Charlotte-area sites where The Hunger Games were filmed. The Capitol interiors were filmed at the former Philip Morris cigarette manufacturing plant in Concord, the same town where today’s qualifier is taking place.

They both look like they had eaten the same to me, there was a lot of debris…I was next to both of them when the contest ended….Shredder was pretty bummed out, rightfully so! Yasir is a good guy, glad to see him make Coney Island – too bad they couldn’t have made it a tie for first……nice to see Wild Bill, meet LA Beast for the first time, see local eater Brian, and my main man, Pi Guy, also….and always good to edge out Pi Guy – HAH! Sorry that Steakbellie couldn’t make it

Other final totals: Wild Bill was fourth with 13.5, I tied some other guy with 12, Pi Guy had 11…..the dude that had a huge write-up in today’s Charlotte Observer didn’t do too well…I think he had 8, or some number around there….kid on my other side was funny, he was basically just eating lunch, putting ketchup and mustard on each dog…good way to get a t-shirt, and free meal….and finally, congrats to Mrs. Pi guy! way to go!!

If the contest ended in a tie they had to give it to a minority like they did with Rios . Shredder had his turn and then some . Time to give a muslim a spot at the table

Don’t think Shredder was screwed. Him and the other guy ate about 25 but Shredder was deducted for more crumbs on the table and plates. He was very kind to the winner and a good sport about it. Even spent some time talking with me and my son after the show about hotdog eating. The third place guy looked pretty sad.

The third place guy was devastated because he was supposed to eat 75 hot dogs and buns.

The big news this morning is whether or not the Shredder is still peeved about not getting to Coney . I am sure that during his drive to work this morning he took out his frustrations on a 16oz pack of Oscar Meyer bologna. How bout Shredder vs Beast in Bologna? We all know the outcome of that one

  32. anonymous said

    June 18, 2012 @ 12:18 pm

The writing was on the wall when IFOCE gave Shredder bologna title to Don Moses Lerman without even giving poor Shredder a chance to fight for it. A disgrace i tell you a disgrace

Kevin you are easily having a FAR better first year than most people, and you’ll only get better. Next year will likely be the first of multiple visits to Coney, and not just to tour the beach!

Beast takes ROY by a landslide but Cookie had the best ROY stats ever!

  36. ... said

    June 18, 2012 @ 12:42 pm

    Matt Stonie is taking ROY…

Next year is considered Beast’s pookie year. Although I think Ownes is the best new comer this year, he just doesn’t go to as many contests…

srs question, what does LAB do for a living, because he seems to go to almost 3/4 of the contests MLE puts on, that gets pretty expensive.

  37. Rhonda Evans said (Registered March 6, 2008)

    June 18, 2012 @ 1:00 pm

With all the talent today, it’s difficult for the best new eater to win as many contests as when Cookie was ROY. Stonie has done about as well as anyone could ask.

Is there or will there be a separate ROY for the best female newcome? I suspect not.

Can Stonie be considered for ROY with having already competed in. Nathans final? I don’t know how ROY works. Curious

  40. ... said

    June 18, 2012 @ 1:56 pm

no real rhyme or reason with it. Monson won it without a full year in 2010. Adrian won it in 2011 with more then a full year under his belt. Stonie is pretty much same situation as Adrian was. Although so is A-train, who is more then worthy of ROY consideration too.

Didn’t Juliet win it two years in a row? Figure that one out.

  42. anonymous said

They should make a special qualifier in kings plaza mall in Brooklyn ny for the Shredder and LA Beast . That would be the righteous thing to do

  43. Realist said

    June 18, 2012 @ 3:43 pm

Does anyone need to point out how Juliet won two years in a row? There are 2 reasons and both are prominently, and proudly, displayed. Well bought, I say, well bought.

  44. Anonymous said

Stonie might not win on the 23rd = no Coney for Stonie = No ROY for da boy! Just sayin…

Isn’t she up for ROY again this year?

  46. Anonymous said

    June 18, 2012 @ 8:16 pm

Juliet won it twice because she was dominant each year. If Matt Stonie is not eligible this year I vote for Juliet to win it again.

  47. Anonymous said

    June 19, 2012 @ 7:40 am

Juliet was being filmed the second year for something or other so ending the filming with her winning was good pr, I think. Obviously you cannot be rookie of the year twice by definition. Eaters should not place too much emphasis on it because it is both looking at records and completely subjective each year. Unfortunate but true. There is no way to quantify these things, just like the rankings even though OJ tries. It isn’t always about numbers.

  48. Urban Legend said

    June 19, 2012 @ 11:07 am

This is a myth. Juliet won Rookie of the Year once. There was no Rookie of the Year announced the following year. This is a classic “urban legend” that got started here with some joker or hater, whatever. Think about it – MLE sometimes does some unusual things, but consecutive ROY titles would be just plain stupid, sort of like some of the posters here.
