The two females don’t stand a chance. I guess they are just showing up for a free meal since it is less than 50 miles away.

It should be very interesting to see how things shake out with these top eaters. Is it just my imagination or is Joey doing more contests of late? Is he heading towards making the most money he can on his way to retiring? Sonya and Juliet should gets lots of press, still more women who are top eaters are needed, they are out there, I am sure. Larell Marie should participate and get press too, three women would be great with the three men (and others).
Just another nasty and useless comment at 4:49 am. How about this for a suggestion OJ. Could you screen or divide comments by times posted. I have thought many dumb things when half asleep but would hope that I would not write them on here.

Joey told me in 2011 that he is going for 7 hot dog titles & that’s it(it’s in my video ‘A Day at Coney’).He’s not stupid, he doesn’t want to end up with severe medical problems, which is what happens eventually when u consume mass quantities.
The assholes who don’t know when to quit because their whole life revolves around CE r in for a rude awakening & robbing themselves of their golden years.

Jo, do you really want to be angry at everyone? Do you somehow think that you are not the a**hole? Please wake up and try to enjoy your life with people who want to be around you. You have a right to be happy. It’s not the competitive eating community for you. Stop being so angry at yourself, too.

Gavonne, no offense, but you don’t know as much about competitive eating as you think you do. You’ve done a handful of contests (compared to the 100+ per each of the top eaters), and you didn’t compete at a high enough level to know what your body needs to do or is put through while doing it. You try to write as though you’re the only smart one on this website, but you’re working and writing with a deficit of real information. If you want to be an eater, be an eater and learn (MUCH MORE!) from the other eaters. If you want to be a fan, be a fan and enjoy. But watch your words. They’re not helping anybody learn anything.

Well, the Rake & Herald would be happy to give them press!
Drop us an email via the website (http://www.therakeandherald.tv) and we’ll try to get back to you ASAP. That goes for male gurgitators too of course.
We would like to start running some eater profiles in the coming weeks, so please get in touch (but avoid using a subject header that just says ‘hello’ or similar as it might get overlooked or shoved in the chod bin with all those kind offers to participate in some dodgy 419 scam).
Furthermore, you’d be free to use any subsequent profile for your own marketing/PR purposes.
And as we hold all gurgitators in equally high regard, we would be more than happy to profile both MLE and indie eaters regardless of whether they are big names or not.
Our only real condition is that they are alive and breathing, although even there we are prepared to be flexible.
A photo and a sense of humour would be handy too.

Rake and Herald you are absolutely the best of the best newcomers! Just so that you know, because of nasty comments and some unsavory things written on here, many of the eaters from top to bottom from MLE to every organization and indies do not even come to this website. They have been burned too many times or simply do not think that it is worthwhile to read the unsavory. Some of them may read, some not, but many unfortunately choose not to get information from eatfeats. From a fan who loves competitive eating and a huge fan of your R and H.

Here’s the email address: sleazyfilthpeddlinghacks@therakeandherald.tv
Use a subject header along the lines of “I’m a gurgitator. Give me a profile, dammit!”
That should get our attention.
By the way, in case you’re interested, there is an update round-up regarding the past weekend’s eating events (both MLE and indie) here: http://www.therakeandherald.tv/society/societystory.php?id=182
It’s a bit long but its full of vids and quotes.

A couple of my trampy, “hot” friends in the Bay Ridge area were thinking about hitting on the “Beautiful” one, but now that this is out, he’s probably shit out of luck, both figuratively and literally.

Anon941 thx, I too am participating; however, gotta face reality. I’m #30 in the league and can no way hold a candle to the top eaters. So, when a journalist/photographer has an opportunity to get a story or picture published, its not going to be an average sized, mediocre eater who is sought after….understandably of course. The desired story/pic is going to be with top-ranked eaters. Couple that with top-ranked, female eaters who barely weigh 100lbs & that equals a double bonus lol 🙂

“Sonya and Juliet should get lots of press..” From the little I know about them, neither one really cares about dealing with the media unless MLE asks them to do it. Wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that e-mail.

Press — Yes, you are correct that when Sonya and Juliet go to contests, they are there to eat, media is secondary for them. If MLE wants them to do an interview they’re happy to oblige as long as it doesn’t distract from their focus on eating. Away from the table they might come across as all smiles and cuteness, but when they step up to the table it’s all business. Now, I’m not speaking for Rhonda, but I think her point was having the of the two top woman eaters in the world at any event usually brings media attention. Joey is of course the main draw. But, as LMM points out, both of them being so thin kind of brings out the jaw dropping factor. I mean if you want to see big guys eat, just go to Hooters on a Friday night. What Sonya and Juliet do kinda awes and amazes the crowd and press. I can guarantee you when either one of them are eating at an event, there is always someone in the audience who says, “Holy crap, look at that girl eat! And, she’s so freakin tiny!” Also, if one of them wins, places, or shows, there’s always a photo with a caption that says, “And she only weighs 100 lbs!”

In horse racing , every time a horse wins they ( the Racing Stewards ) move the horse up in class and they race with a better group of horses otherwise the ”AAA’better horses would win every race , there’s no sport in that an no one wants to watch that happen, then they put all the AAA horses together in a race and let them race among themselves and eventually they put the horse out to pasture,
Horses that never win are put in a maiden race , thus guaranteeing one of theses hoses that never won will become a winner .
the real garbage horses are put in a claiming race ( each and every horse is a looser) bottom of the barrel of horses. what there should be contests with the likes of the top 5 eaters competing among themselves all the time and only and the eaters that never win put in a maiden contest/end

Don, you’re a vet you know the competitive eating business. The reason why the top eaters are brought to an event is to attract media attention. The sponsor balances the cost of an ad with the cost of a contest. The only reason a sponsor does an eating contest is to get an article, story on tv or radio. Using Nathan’s as an example, basically how much would an hour long commercial on ESPN for Nathan’s cost Nathan’s? Unfortunately Don, no media will be interested in low ranked eaters eating against themselves. No media means no sponsor means no contest. APE contests are usually faced with that reality. APE eaters don’t attract media attention like MLE eaters do, therefore APE gets small sponsors. Unless of course Kobayashi is involved, and Kobi just takes all the money from sponsors and the other indies get his droppings. But even sponsors are now realizing that just having Kobi doesn’t draw the media because Kobi has no competition whatsoever. However, I do think MLE is doing a better job of spreading around the top eaters and creating better opportunities for the lower ranked eaters with more contests and events. Also, there are some MLE qualifier events where lower ranked eater can sometimes end up win, place or show.

Woe Nelly! Scope said 5’22,I hate to tell you this but I feel that your wrong in today’s time and place. I read a post on this blog that said at one time before Kobayashie anyone would have a punchers chance at winning Nathans , I agree with that thou I wasn’t the author of that post,
I just won a contest and it was like the contests of old , it was an independent event, i won’t say it was easy pickens for me I didn’t sail to victory but,. I;’ll be 64 soon and not the Don Lerman of 2000 but I still have it and as I say a win is a win . the contest drew hundreds to see unknowns compete/end

It is really nice to see you back at the table but with moderation and taking care of yourself and your health Don. Winning is not everything by a longshot, but it is nice to have it happen no matter who the competition. Scoop makes an excellent case of course because sponsors look to do exactly as he said, get publicity, good publicity to promote their product. That is the core of competitive eating now, product. It is no longer just fun at a state fair as part of ox pull contests and blueberry pie eating contests. It is business, whether small or large, local or international. You could argue that without the eaters of all ranges there would be no competitive eating. Actually that is not quite true, not at all. If you have top eaters like Joey and Kobayashi and others, you could, as MLE has done, do exhibitions and events with just a few. Even Nathans for the ESPN presentation hardly focusses on most of the eaters. For all of the things which could be made better there, their viewership is amazing and better for whom? The other eaters who worked so hard to get there but get little face time on television or attention have to and should be self-satisfied. They made it to the table, just like a ballplayer wants to make it to the big leagues. For all of its faults, MLE is the biggest league there is. While it is not for everyone, it is certainly for some.
Don does make a good point, that Nathans at one time was not a given as to the winner. Gavonne says that Joey is going for 7 and then will quit. The second statement may or may not be true, but Joey and Kobayashi have to take into consideration their health. This is not like other sports where you simply no longer have the ability with age. This is about one’s health itself, and you only get one chance in life. All those hotdogs cannot be good for anyone’s health. Those of you who cannot put down more than 20 even if only a few times a year are actually lucky.
Again Scoop does make other good points. Sponsors have to realize, as they have been, that Kobayashi by himself has no competition. If he had a personality and could present in English, that could be different. But he does not. He has a stylist and a manager who designs clothes and does the best she thinks to advise him, but she knows nothing about the world of competitive eating, in my opinion nor about business. That being said, he is doing okay. He needs a really great sidekick, kind of like the Harlem Globetrotters, but someone would have to be paid well to do this. It is not going to happen. MLE is too firmly established and just keeps growing (never mind they lost such and such, sure business ebbs and flows, they get others to replace it and they are smart cookies).
That is more than enough for this morning. Taste of DC will be interesting because there are talented and interesting eaters competing. And LM, never underestimate your talent and compelling personality. Yes, people may admire Sonya and Juliet and their tiny figures and that they are Asian helps to identify them, but your persona and great hair color stands tall, and you can give a better interview. Everyone has talents, different ones, that is what makes the sport go round.

LM, I agree, but don’t cut yourself too short. Your modesty and support of fellow competitors speaks volumes about how great an asset you are to MLE, and CE in general. You’re a role model!
A7:23, that’s a well writen, easy-to-follow, enjoyable piece to read. I too believe that after years of eating competitivel, people really have to start thinking about their health. This is magnified multifold for people who practice a lot. What you do early in life determines your health in later years. You only get one mortal body.

There is a show on HGTV called Love it or List it which revolves around homeowners that are crossed between selling their existing home or having it redone with their limited budget. One real estate lady tries to convince that her makeover will convince them to keep it while the other agent shows them move in ready homes. In Seiken case I think the woman agent would lose and lose royally. . LIST IT !

Actually, I think the real definition of idiot is someone who doesn’t like competitive eating and a competitive eating contest being held in DC who goes to a site about competitive eating and follows a string about the competitive eating contest in DC.

Another day and getting on to 10:55, that would be me. No need to apologize, if you post as anonymous, one has to wait to be approved. Love your writing and enthusiasm etc. Just wanted you to know why you may, if you wish to, do your own outreach to many of the eaters who are really upstanding members of the community, role models who do not post here for reasons cited and some do not even read for same reasons. Too bad that a few bad apples spoil things for others, but without eatfeats I would not have known about R and H. Hangin in in spite of the rude and beyond.
