Nate Biller and Bam Martinez along with Pete Davekos and Yasir Salem are expected to compete in Sunday's Nathan's qualifier at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, OK. Kevin "LA Beast" will be a last minute addition to the field. Mary Bowers will headline the women's division. (A Mary Bowers victory could send the women's wild card into disarray. She appears to be currently leading the female runners-up with 9.5, and it is not clear who would become the top wild card after a win since the women's runners-up have generally not been announced and it is possible that they have not been recorded at all.)

Okay, I got a feeling. There really seems to be a buzz going around this year’s Nathan’s. The girl thing taking off, big crowds at the qualifiers, ESPN signing until 2017, and new faces (LA Beast and last years crew) emerging with the guys, I’m going to call it here today. I think Stonie going to give Joey, Pat and Tim, and when it comes to numbers Sonya, a big push. We saw his strength in asparagus. Mark my word. This guy’s for real and he reminds me of a little person who showed up at some rest stop several yeas ago on 95 that nobody took seriously until she started to eat. The kid’s young, may divulge too much on websites, but he takes his eating seriously. If your looking for good odds and a big payout, the Toad’s hungry and will make it interesting.

Whether Matt eats 35, 45, or 55 … doesn’t affect Sonya in the least, unless Matt’s a cross-dresser who can sneak into the women’s contest. In that case it would be very, very close between he and Sonya.
For what it’s worth, I’ll be surprised if Matt doesn’t do 40-42. I expect about the same for Sonya on the women’s side.

Would he need to cross-dress?

I think Stonie should sneek into the Women’s division, because then he might win. (and imagine to press around that once it comes out).
I have to agree with you Jimmy, I think Matt is the future ringer of the sport. Whether or not he will be pushing Joey/Pat within the next years will depend on how much he puts forth. While you say he probably puts to much other there one the web, I think in contract to all the top eaters like Joey, Pat, Tim, & Sonya, that are pretty much hermits inbetween contests and interviews, I personally feel it’s a breath of fresh air. He needs to get better behind the camera though….
Only thing i have to disagree with is what Rhonda said about not effecting Sonya. Stonie taking a leap over Sonya effects her in many ways. Sonya is a legend, and the 3 people ranked ahead of here have secured spots in peoples minds as veterans of the sport (Joey=World Champ, Pat=Guy with Mohawk and Red Juice, Tim=Face paint Guy & Eater X). If Stonie, a name probably unknown to 95% of Nathan’s viewers, comes forth in (what might be considered offically) his Rookie year and eats more Dog’s then Sonya, it would not only force her down in the ranks but turn peoples head the other way. Plus, since Stonie has the whole, skinny/Asian thing going for him that no one in the top 10 can claim except Sonya, he might take the market on that.
It’s all to be seen. While Stonie is doing good I would assume what seperated the ‘good’ from the ‘great’ is what’s put forth after you do ‘good’. I read his blog and its true, Chestnut ate 52 in 12 minutes his 2nd year at nathan’s (46 in 10). Those are extremely big shoes to feel and right now I don’t think Stonie is on par with that. I’m with Rhonda, I’d mark Stonie down for 40 give-or-take 2 Hot Dogs.

Motif makes some good points but I disagree completely about Stoniue pushing Sonya. And read what is written here, so much hate. It is better for the top eaters to take the high road and communicate privately though it is appreciated when a Stonie or an Erik or others write something here. It is also appreciated when someone like the Beast writes about his experiences as well as those who write anonymously for good reasons. It helps to tame the hate somewhat and enlarges everyone’s knowledge.
Sonya remains in a class by herself and it has to be a woman who catches her now that there are more women participating. Plus she has been in the game a long time with a huge number of records. Stonie does not have the so called Asian thing anyway, Sonya is an All American but came from Korea. Kobayashi remains a Japanese citizen. Stonie is not (sorry Stonie) interview material even if he improves a lot. Neither is Joey though he has improved. The sport needs both top eaters and people to present it well to the press, they do not go together often. Kobayashi still needs an interpreter in spite of having lived here for what? two or three years.
If Sonya did drop overall in the rankings due to Stonie she would be the very first to congratulate him. She is not a hermit, just chooses not to comment here as do some others.
