Dyum! Miki and Adrian certainly made sure that they qualified, with those totals! Congratulations to those two, as well as to Marcos.
It seems to me that there’s a lot of intercontest disparity, given the variances in totals from contest to contest. As great as Miki and Adrian did, it’s hard for me to take their totals at face value, which would lead me to deduct that they actually consumed the weight-equivalent of 52 and 36 wings more, respectively, than Joey and Sonya did in separately winning their rounds with 140.
But, within each contest, I think the comparisons among participants are more apt to be fairly accurate. It should prove to be a most interesting final.

Having said that, in this day of digital technology, on-the-spot interviews are quite often readily obtained at-a-distance, especially when the interviewER is professional, reputable, and trusted by the interviewEE.
Perhaps you can pursue those seemingly elusive qualities.

Thanks, 10:20. Glad you liked the write-up too, 10:21. To be honest, I’m not really sure what an “armchair quarterback” is on account of being British and never having heard the term before so I can’t really answer that. Suffice it to say, though, I love CE and I love writing. So I guess it’s a combination of that, really. Each to their own, eh?
Coming back on topic, fair play to Miki but massive respect also to the Rabbit and the Monster. I thought they did pretty well.

For any company Miki Sudo winning this contest would be headline news. But, Sudo’s local Hard Rock found out her record and wants nothing to do with it. So, Hooters and Hard Rock are trying to keep the contest under the radar. No twitters, no press, no dice. Nothing against the gal, but Sudo became toxic when it comes to promotion. More are just learning Miki “Bomb Threat” Sudo isn’t exactly great for advertising. Questions are, how will New York City handle someone who shut down air traffic on 9/11? It’s obviously coming out. What are her fellow eaters supposed to say? Placing honest eaters in that position is really unfair without talking points. she will be one of the worst things ever to happen to MLE and CE in general. Especially when the general public is familiar with Sonya and Juliet, both of whom have squeaky-clean backgrounds and images. I understand that the Sheas routinely handle “damage control” at their PR firm, but I won’t be surprised when adorable “mad bomber” Miki’s little prank overshadows anything she does at the table.

Think of all the head cases in Major League Sports that were signed by teams and ended up dead or in jail. How bout Marvin Bad News Barnes who played for Detroit Pistons convicted of several misdemeanor including beating a teammate with a tire iron burglary drug poss and trespassing. How bout Mel Hall who played with the Yankees and is currently doing 40 yrs for statutory rape of a 14 yr old In TX . The list goes on

Rarely do I post on here these days, but I’m amazed at how often someone feels the need to bring up Miki’s past actions. What does it prove? What does it benefit you? I knew about the incident long before meeting her, but I chose not to let it cloud my perception of her. Everyone deserves a fair opportunity, and quite a few people deserve a second chance in life. From my experience in the high school classroom, I know there are a lot of people out there with past actions they’re not proud of – but it isn’t the defining moment of their lives. They’re not proud of what they’ve done, but they live in a society that believes in reform and giving people a chance to remake themselves after they’ve paid their debt to society (so to speak). Miki impresses me as an eater, but more importantly she impresses me as a friend. Her life is no doubt difficult as it is. It is beyond me why people feel the need to constantly heap dirt on others. If her eating ability was on par with mine, I imagine that a lot of these comments would simply not exist. As memories of the last graduating class runs through my mind, I know there are many Miki Sudos there are among them. I’m proud to have known them all.

Thank you Naader Reda, Amen to all you have written. For the idiots who post here, there seems to be no let up. We cannot apparently do anything about that. What you have written may be completely true, I believe that most of it is. Nevertheless, competitive eating is something which is in the news in the larger arena. Each top eater is going to have some scrutiny in the press. And to be completely honest, while as a human being I sympathize enormously with Miki wanting to get on with her life and all that you wrote, symbolically, what she did is going to affect her one way or another for the rest of her life. Like a Monica Lewinsky, the press is going to keep finding her one way or another. There is great irony, unfortunately, that she could unseat top eaters. I say irony because of all of the things she could be to distinguish herself, to be a top eater on the 4th of July, our Nations Independence Day, and to have committed a crime that terrorists commit, and on the anniversary of September 11th, is the stuff of movies and a nightmare scenario. MLE is going to have a very very hard time figuring out what to do. I am sure that Nathans too is going to be part of the decisions of what to do about MIki. I truly feel very sorry for Miki. Yet she is going to have perhaps eat another bitter pill. Her action was beyond any kind of immature behavior. To not recognize the very danger she was putting herself in to begin with makes me honestly wonder about her state of mind and her balance. You are wonderfully loyal to her and others as a human being, and that I admire very much. Nevertheless, I think her future being tied to any high profile in the press profession or otherwise, and especially competitive eating, is going to be a very hard sell.

I think you need to sign the MLE contract to make the top 50 and I am not sure there are 50 active signees remaining with Paul Barlow retiring. The Bauers remain ranked and they both haven’t done a contest in over a year.

Shea mention Sudo on ESPN radio today but only stated she would compete in wings on the 25th, noticeably absent was a mention her competing at Nathans
