Here’s how I see it: Joey will win without too much trouble. Tim “should” be second, but Miki may surprise for that spot. I look for those two to be followed by Jeff and Michelle, respectively. Nate will eat a very respectable number, even if he doesn’t finish in the top four.

It seems that everywhere Sudo goes , Lesco follows.

    If I were laying odds: Joey 1-3, Tim 4-1, Miki 9-2, Jeff 15-1, Michelle 26-1, field 500-1.

Tim would be -125 over Miki who would be +105 based on Tim’s remarkable success in this contest. Like Rhonda said previously, Tim is a great strategist and knows exactly what to do. If Miki wins over Tim, it will be because of her superior natural ability. This will be the most intense capacity contest Miki has ever been in.

CORRECTION: Nate was left out of the odds in error. I meant to include him with Michelle at 26-1.

Rich, did you ever work as a professional oddsmaker? You seem to be quite adept at it! (I’d just be peein’ in the wind.)

Rich, regarding capacity, like you said, that is the only questionable attribute I have regarding Miki’s CE talent. We know she can eat more than 40 HDBs, but how many more? All the other events she has participated in did not really test her capacity. Tamales should, as should chili, if she attends that one in DC.

If Miki can finish ahead of Tim in either of those events, then I would expect her to eat 50 HDBs, or very close to it. I only use HDB’s because that seems to be the most recognized staple of ability.

Tamales are kind of a toss up food to me because sometimes they are dry or gritty and that could change things. The texture needs to be just rmight

I think there may be a few upsets brewing in Texas. Joey , Miki, Janus and Butler will all eat a high number 70+ Tamales

Really ambitious numbers on Western Days site
    http://www.cityoflewisville.com/index.aspx?page=496

Does MLE really have 70 events annually? OK they may have more than any other single organization but 70?

“MLE is the governing body of all stomach-centric sports, conducting more than 70 events annually including the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, N.Y. The competitive eating community, which numbers more than 3,000 veteran and rookie athletes, travels the nation in search of top titles and the glory that they provide.”

    3,000-??? veteran and rookie athletes-lol

    1) Sudo 100+
    2) Janus 90+
    3) Chestnut 90+

I never sought out being a professional oddsmaker but I have always studied statistics and trends. I majored in math and working with numbers has always been my strength. I can’t remember a time in my adult life that I didn’t make my own odds on anything that captivated my interest; no matter how trivial the event. I admit I could be wrong in my assessment of Joey vs Koby, but I was basing it solely on contests held in America (many of which consist of ribs or chicken wings). I also feel Joey is a lot better now than he was four years ago (there is nothing to indicate otherwise) while Koby, due to lack of serious competition and limited events, is probably at the same level he was.

Rich is awesome as an eater, so you forget there’s a whole person, entirely separate from CE in him. Cool guy.

Rich, there is a flaw in these odds: There is no chance that anybody other than Joey, Tim, or Miki will win this contest. 15-1 for Butler? 26-1 for Michelle? No way! Figure out the odds of Joey, Tim, AND Miki all throwing up in the same contest, and you’ve figured out the odds of Jeff Butler’s winning this contest. Figure out the odds of Joey, Tim, Miki, and Jeff all throwing up, and you’ve figured out the odds of Michelle’s winning it. Rich, you’ve let kindness (to Jeff and Michelle) taint your statistical analysis. And if you don’t agree, put your money where your mouth is; bet $$$$ on Butler or Michelle to win it, and I’ll take your money all day long.

Look at the professional sports odds and you will see similar odds for teams who have virtually no chance of winning it all.

I competed in this event a few years ago. Tamales are ok quite flavorful and appetizing on an empty stomach. If the temperature is 90plus with humidity, and the tamales are baking under the sun, they become quite gross tasting after the first 10. Gross enough to make you sick to your stomach. Ask the Megatoad

Rich, your point doesn’t make the logic of giving Butler 15-1 odds any wiser. 15-1 is crazy. You know he can’t win, so why give him those odds?

@5:22 Rich’s odds imply that if you held the contest 16 times, Jeff would win once and lose 15 times. Nothing against Jeff, but obviously that’s not going to be the case. You could run that contest a thousand times, and Jeff’s not going to win it once.
