    Didn’t mean to leave out or diss Badlands (I was addressing 10:44’s comment.), who remains a welcomed addition to anything he’s involved in! He puts fun in competitive eating, and his importance/influence is absolutely not placement-dependent!

    Badlands is my type of eater—-old school—-when CE contests actually did seem to reflect a brotherhood and sisterhood of camaraderie among eaters.

    Those were the good ol’ days.

    The good old days were great for many reasons. There was no money involved in CE. It wasn’t so popular then, there was little press. People did it for the fun of it, made great friends with lots of people, supported each other in their hobby. Badlands has been in for a long time and always puts the fun in CE. His talents go way beyond eating.

    Of course the good old days were great. The Sheas made the huge mistake of expanding CE to other states . Thats where the problems started . When everything was local there was none of this “this guy smells like shit” ” this guy has roaches” “this guy mouth has an odor” “this guy is a pitiful eater ” This guy has no friends” “this guy never gets layed” “this girl is a terrorist ” “This guy cheats” There was never any personal trash talk about anyone and thats what made everyone get along . CE should have stayed where it belonged right there in the Big Apple

    1:02 that is BS and you know it. People are people. In the good ole days people were the same they are today. You are only using this opportunity to push your own agenda. The Sheas brought competitive eating to fabulous heights. They still do. So do others and things grow more and more. Other spin-offs and independents continue to build on what they did. It is only here that really stupid comments like yours thrive. People in CE, eaters, fans etc. away from this site continue to be friends, grown-ups, compete, do publicity, spread good things about CE. The people going to Chili are friends at and away from the table.

    I will also make the trip down for this contest! I think it’s safe to say more chili will be ate at this contest than any other contest in the history of chili eating contests

    I think competitive eating needs more rivals and healthy trash talk. more east vs west / south vs north regional battles ect.. its healthy and fun for the sport as long as its still respectful. Can we name any legitimate rivalries in competitive eating other than Joey and Kobe ?
