Marco Owens announces (in comments) he has taken the lead in the Taco Trough challenge at Taco in a Bag with a time of 3:15, beating Pat Bertoletti's time by almost a minute. He thought that would result in an immediate payment of $5,000, but the contest will continue and pay the prize to the fastest finisher as of September 23. (No mention of that date is made in the original challenge announcement). (via email) update Stephanie Torres just finished the challenge in 4:30, which puts her in the lead for the $2000 prize.

I have no complaints. I went out there to hang out with Pat & Tim/ help out at Riotfest. I had an awesome time at the event & doing the challenge was just an added bonus. Yes initially I thought 1st to beat the record would win the money but after the fact all the details were ironed out for me before I flew out there. If you checkout out the video they list the duration of the contest at the end. http://youtu.be/HiAMv3IDCrY .I didn’t renew my contract when it was up in March since then I’ve taken a break from doing any contest & have tried my hand at a couple of restaurant challenges. I’m a free agent for now I can do pretty much whatever I want until I resign my contract. And as far as MLE hyping me up what are you smoking? when I initially signed I was wait listed for almost every contest. On top of that I was never a crowd pleaser as far a showmanship/playing to the audience goes. I’d show up eat hope for a decent placing hang out & go home. Unless you’re Joey or Matt then this is a hobby it’s not your job. Nothing’s changed as far as me competing in Dover I’ll be there & hopefully get a spot at the finals. In order to get a chance to compete I need to renew but until that point since for some reason people seem to care I’ll let you know that I’ll be competing at chef one next week. This is just eating people it’s not meant to be taken so serious.

Great job, Marcos. You’re right in saying it’s just eating; however MLE takes it VERY seriously. Their contract is worded in a way to leave little doubt. That being said, I hope you can get back in if that is your wish.

I think the reason that restaurant called you “the Black Hole” was because, scientifically, a black hole consumes/destroys an infinite amount of mass. So they were praising your eating ability, as able to eat infinite amounts of pounds of food without any problem. Still, they should have thought more before making up that name. I thought, all along, that was your chosen nickname. I am sorry.
