Tanner still has potential for rookie of the year. Sean Yeager though might also be a candidate now after his donut performance. Will be interesting to see what numbers Sean puts up for hot dogs

@2:09 if there was a last minute “surprise” qualifier announced like somebody else was speculating about on a different thread, I wouldn’t be opposed to trying to do that one depending on location. I doubt that would actually happen though.

Sean you should see if there is opening in DC since that one will likely be all eaters that did not win a qualifier going for a wild card. Probably anything in the 30s should be good enough for Coney unless there are some unknown eaters that show up

Thanks for advice 1133. Would be cool to do make it to Coney, but it’s not super appealing (this year) for a number of reasons. 1. I’d have to pay to travel to any qualifier 2. You don’t win prize money when winning a qualifier 3. Even if I did make it to coney, not a chance I’m finishing top 5, so I’m not winning any money on July 4th, 4. I’d probably need to take a day off work to travel for the July 4th contest 5. I’ve heard the after-party for July 4th is epic!!! But I don’t drink lol(sad face)
TL;DR- Yea competing on July 4th would be sweet, but Ive found I enjoy competing at other events lot, as well as just catching up with eaters(and meeting new people) before/after the contests—-and if I do well enough, making some money to cover the travel really helps justify it!

@1013 Jwebb will be 2nd or 3rd once rankings are posted. Geoff may still hold 2 but it will be close. Nick likely remains same ranking and Pat moves back in at 5 or 6

Agree OJ that there is strong case for James to enter updated rankings at #2. Geoff will be top 3 and then Miki Nick Pat in that order. Tanner should enter rankings in top 25 if he signs and maybe William Lloyd in top 15 based on his hot dog performance for an eater that has not eaten with MLE previously.

@Sean pretty sure you will end up in top 10 at Coney maybe not in the money with a top 5 finish. As for rankings, you definitely would be ranked top 20 maybe even near top 10

@552– and what is the benefit of having a higher ranking, assuming you are not a vane person, other than getting to eat in the middle of the table at contests? U cant put an MLE ranking on my resume. unless MLE paid a salary that was directly correlated to an “eater ranking”, then it doesn’t seem like it would matter that much. I personally would never introduce myself as “the #X ranked competitive eater in the world”-unless I was getting paid to do so…
do you have some sort of vested interest in or side bet of sean joining MLE / doing well at Nathans?
current rankings show Max Suzuki behind Lesco. And Gideon & Heavy D are higher ranked than Pat. Im pretty sure Pat knows he is better than both of them despite what the MLE website says…

@1143 I think they were indicating that you have a shot of doing well at Nathan’s. I agree though rankings are subjective and don’t matter at all unless MLE paid eaters based on their ranking number. Based on the MLE press statement today, we could see a different field going into the 4th
