Humble Bob wins Ash Creek Saloon ribs

(from comment) The contest page for the Ash Creek Saloon rib eating contest has been updated to list the top 4 finishers:

1. “Humble” Bob Shoudt 6.8 lbs. ribs in 12 minutes $3000 prize
2. Joey Chestnut 6.6 lbs.
3. Tim Janus
4. Juliet Lee 5 lbs.
5. Eric “Badlands” Booker
? Crazy Legs Conti
? Lars Anderson

This is Bob Shoudt’s first victory over Joey Chestnut since the controversial meatball eating contest in Atlantic City in 2006.

update ConnPost has an article which reports that Badlands Booker came in 5th and also claims that Pat Bertoletti competed, which appears to be an impossibility with the demise of the Concorde.

update #2 Full official results are available

update #3 Victoria Fee has four pictures from the contest.

    *Results*
In a stunning upset, Bob Shoudt took the title of Ash Creek Saloon World Rib Eating Champion today, besting Joey Chestnut at his own game. Chestnut has only once before been beaten in the rib discipline. The hot dog champ came in second, followed by Eater X in third and the lovely Juliet Lee in fourth.

Congrats to Humble Bob on your victory.

Further proof that anyone can be beaten on any given day and no one remains at the top of the ladder forever.

As Badlands says, Stay Hungry And Focused.

    Again Congratulations

What is better then having the Hangman at your eating event? I heard Ashcreek had Wrestling before the eating contest, starring the legendary Doink the Clown. Now that is a wrestler I admire and would enjoy being around. .

Congratulations Bob on a job well done! I have a few observations, with which, coupled with a few dollars, might buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks:

Tim and Juliet put up their usual Tim and Juliet-like good totals.

Humble Bob continues to improve in most all food groups. While, overall, Bob is no where near the level of Joey, those two are surely going in opposite directions.

Joey did not eat to his usual level. He ate down to his competition. This was the 2005 Joey Chestnut, not the 2006-2007 Chestnut.

I believe Joey’s blowout loss to Koby has taken a toll on Joey’s confidence. Confidence plays a MAJOR role in CE.

Joey now has the distiction of being the only “World-ranked # 1” eater this century to lose not only the next compestition after Nathan’s, but the next two.

Does anyone still not believe that Kobayashi is the greatest eater in the world today?

Humble Bob seems to be at least a minor exception to the Belt of Fat theory.

The 6.8 and 6.6 numbers originally reported were 6 pounds, 8 ounces and 6 pounds, 6 ounces – the scale they used displayed amounts in pounds and ounces, not in decimal fractions of a pound.

looking at wild bills results and amazed how so many ties at the thousands of an ounce. Wonder if you picked up a thumbnail of a scrap that landed on the table would you still have so many ties. Sure sounds fishy that scales that said 8 ounces are now showing .76856 ounces

anoying 12:21 – it is the converstion of ounces to decimal that is throwing you off. Joey’s .375=6 ounces, and the very common .9375=15 ounces. Just take the amount after the decimal and multiply it by 16 to get the number of ounces.

If these things were that accurate (out to .0001) then it would be very hard to weigh things correctly. Between the crumbs left on faces, tables, hands, in cups of water, etc…..

Thanks “ Wild Bill “ we can always count on you for all of the eaters results. IFOCE should make you their official score keeper. Ash Creek was great. The match up of eaters could not have been better. It was great to see everyone and was the most fun I had at a competition in a long time. As far as the weights in 1/10000 of a ounce I could have placed higher but I was laughing to hard to swallow after I watch Crazy Legs use his empty rib tray to get his judges attention. I would also imagine Crazy Legs would have placed higher if they deducted the gravel in his tray from when the judge spilled it and scooped up the rib bones along with at least a half pound of gravel. Oh well as they say Sh_ t happens the, bottom line it was Fun!

This was a fun event with alot of personalities in attendance and the ribs were very good. Just wish I brought some sunscreen as we waiting about 4 hours in the scorching sun. That lame ass wrestling was the side show to our side show. How’s your head feeling Philben?

I think you are way off Rhonda when you said that Joey’s confidence is down and he is not the same. Bob just stepped it up and did a kick ass job. Even the best have a few down days. He will rebound.

    Awesome job Humble Bob

The 1/10000th of a pound is always multiple of 1/16th. Do you think they may have weighed it in ounces and just displayed it here as a decimal instead of a fraction?

Just to clear everything up about the scales (Dave Mitolo, you already did this – thanks) I did mention that the scales weighed in pounds and ounces – however, the database here on EatFeats has a unit measure for each entry, which for this contest, was POUNDS. As the entries cannot be made in pounds and ounces, everything had to be converted to decimal to be entered in the database. After I entered the results here, I cut & pasted them for the comment entry.

Check the full results on IFOCE.com – and as Dave mentioned, multiply the decimal part of each entry here by 16 – and you will see that the decimal results match the IFOCE results:

    http://www.ifoce.com/feature.php?action=detail&sn=76

Buffet Buster was just pointing out that if the scales had been accurate to 1/10000th of an pound, there probably would not have been any ties.
