Atlanta Waffle preview

The Atlanta Journal Constitution has a short preview of Sunday’s Waffle House World Waffle Eating Championship. The contest will be 10 minutes long. Sonya Thomas is the only listed expected entrant.

With $5,000 for first place, it might make financial sense for Kobayashi to put the “world” in World Waffle Eating Championship, as that prize could pay for a transpacific flight and have a considerable amount left over.

I am trying to raise some coin to get to this contest. We will see. Each eater will have a “Waffle Counter” assigned to them. That should be fun.

My heart doesnt bleed for Mr Kobayashi and his financial status. He has the power to walk into any contest and take the prize money without having any competitor stand in his way. He has made so much money here and abroad that who really cares how much he has left over for spending loot.

Good luck to all waffle eaters. I will be in Buffalo and not making the trip to Atlanta after all.

    Chestnut wins the waffles.
    Joey Chestnut – 18.5
    Sonya Thomas – 18
    Patrick Bertoletti – 11.5 (i think)
Newcomer Ben from Covington, GA – 9
    Me – 8

I think this was the top five.

And to top off Joeys perfomance he is going to donate half the winnings to the Katrina victims.

Well I got spanked the waffles were much chewy than anyone expected. Joey Chestnut being a complete class act donated 1/2 of his $5,000 to hurricane victims. Sonya even though she put up a good fight could not overcome Chestnuts jump in the begining. The waffles were officially 1/2 lb each congratulations to Joey on his victory. Also putting up good performances were Hall Hunt, Super Paul, Ben from Covington Ga, Sonya Thomas, Bubba Yarbrough.
