GalSoneBald

Youtube has a video of Natsuko “Gal” Sone being made up to appear bald. (There have not been many recent eating-related Gal Sone videos on youtube.)

Now, granted, I don’t speak Japanese, but that video makes no freaking sense. I wonder if Japanese people view American TV with the same perplextity that Americans do when viewing Japanese TV? If someone out there can speak Japanese and can provide a description that would be great. Watching that video reminded me of the time on “The Simpson’s” when Homer’s head appeared on a Japanese soap box. I can’t make heads or tails out of it.

But seriously, at this year’s Nathan’s, Kobayashi was telling Sonya how much he would love to see her eat against Sone. He said that Sone could give Sonya a real battle. Hopefully, someday that will happen.

HJP the more you speak the more you hurt the credibility of those in competitive eating you want to help. Your talking outta your ass.

Kobayashi told me that Juliet would defeat Gal Sone very easily.

I do not pretend to be totally fluent in Japanese as learning Japanese came along with my study of Japanese calligraphy and living there off and on for the last ten years. It is my adopted spiritual home.

Understanding the words and what is being said would not be illuminating as it relates to competitive eating. Gal Sone is highly recognized in Japan, they were “testing” people on whether or not they could recognize her dressed as a bald male. Much of television, whether American or Japanese, is an acquired taste. Gal Sone is or has become in Japan a “television personality” and appears on many Japanese television shows as a participant. Those are a bit different from the eating challenges and contests she has done. As an unabashed fan of Sonya, it would indeed be interesting to see her compete against Gal Sone, but I will keep my predictions to myself.

Anon, while waiting on the Nathans bus Takeru told Sonya that Sone was very good and it would be great if they were in a contest together. I believe he also brought up another eaters name they call the witch. They then discussed briefly how the contests in Japan were different and that would have to be worked out. Sonya said on the bus how she would love to get back to Japan and could probably swing a trip to Korea out of it. He never mentioned anything about Juliet. Of course, Sonya speaks a little Japanese having lived there, but the conversation mostly took place with his interpreter (his interpreter is a great guy and I’d rather not bring up his name — I’m sure you know him). Sonya and Takeru have always been very close, I think it goes back to when they had to spend the day together taping a commercial (those tapings can be very tedious).

I don’t know why you brought up Juliet’s name. I’m sure Takeru thinks Juliet’s great. So does Sonya. I don’t think I ever heard Kobayashi say anything bad about another eater. If he told you that Juliet would beat Sone very easily that’s fine, but I’m really fuzzy about what your point is. What you are saying really doesn’t sound like him though, because I never heard him speak bad about another eater. If he didn’t have something positive to say about Sone, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t say anything. Really, however, I don’t know what your credibility is because I don’t know who you are? If you been to contests or are an eater I’m sure we’ve met. I’ll ask Sonya, maybe she can figure it out.

I disagree Jennifer. You ncan’t say she’s the greatest. You can only say she is better than those she has competed agianst. I agree with Crazy Legs’s mom in thinking shed lose to the Japanese.

Yeah … I hope Sonya “figures it out.” By the way, Sonya has never lived in Japan, to the best of my knowledge, but if she has, perhaps you can remind her of that. Aint she Korean?

Something sure got lost in translation if someone thinks I said that Sonya would lose to a Japanese. I did not commit one way or the other, as I said. And I cannot imagine Kobayashi making any predictions about anyone except himself. And now back to my brushes………..

I can say Sonya is the greatest female eater of all time. I have either competed against, seen most of them eat in person &/or met them.

Sonya would beat all of the Japanese women in speed, mid-distance eating & what we here would consider long distance.

BUT, there long distance & our long distance is like a marathon & a triathalon or ultramarathon. I do not know what would happen then, but it seems like they can literally eat all day.

I would bet my life savings & take more $$$ from a loan shark to bet on Sonya in anything 15 minutes or less against those mentioned.

It would be the easiest $$$ I ever made.
