Dont worry Juliet. Your first win probably is not too far away. Good job.

With a $500 purse awarded to the winner only , does 3rd 4th or even second for that matter really make a difference. Point system perhaps , but if thats the case 2nd place would be the only factor involved for points. In the long run point system really only benefits the winner.

How long will Juliet be considered a rookie? A decade?

Whether Brian and Juliet have a side thing going or not, Brian’s coverage of her is very much a plus. Get it Brian!

I would think 3rd and 4th place matter a lot to the eater! Contgrats SB and WingKong!!

Yes, second and third and fourth (and fifth and sixth and seventh) do matter, even if there’s not prize money. Not all eaters are “just in it for the money”. Granted, that’s easy for me to say given my career winnings totalling $25. The thrill of competition, reaching personal goals and talking some smack among friends is what got most of us into CE and it’s what still drives many of us today. Even if I knew that I’d never win another dime in CE (and that very well may be true), I’d still compete and I’d still care about second, third and fourth place.

How big were the shrimp? Unless they were huge, round one had to have taken like 5 seconds, right? I’m assuming they made you clear your mouth for each round, not just stuff the food in there?

  11. Chipburger said

    April 22, 2007 @ 4:06 pm

Actually the first round took 8 seconds for the first person to finish and about 20 for all 12 to finish. The only round you had to clear your mouth was the first round. Shrimp were normal size, peeled but still with tail. 2nd round was 12 wings with meat having to be cleaned. Third round was 4 foot long hot dogs on basically hoagie rolls… much bigger than nathan’s, 4th round was 3 UNO personal pan pizza with all toppings. Last round was 6 small Rita’s italian ices that you had to use a spoon to eat. Great atmosphere with perfect weather. All in all a very fun contest. Juliet Lee performed awesome as well as everyone else.

I would have liked to have seen Dale Boone compete in that competition. It would have been very, very interesting because he is a master at short events like this.

Thanks Chip for the update. That sounded like a really fun contest. It’s cool that it started with sprints and the quantities got increasingly larger. I was close with my 5 second estimate on the shrimp 🙂 It would be cool if a trend started to have more contests with a variety of foods. Are you doing asparagus? I’m going to be there. . .

In case anyone doesn’t know, IFOCE put up both a news story and past contest recap of the contest on their webpage, showing the order of the top 10 finishers and also points totals. Looks like they did a good job recording and posting everything.

They put up a story but the way its worded makes Juliet Lee look like a second rate citizen. His foe? Thats the best they can do. Its quite apparant that they dont want to lose Sonya or make it appear that Juliet is stealing the headlines from their number one female eater

  19. Anonymous said

In case you haven’t noticed, Sonya Thomas is by far the best female eater out there.

  20. Rhonda Evans said

    April 23, 2007 @ 4:02 pm

Juliet deserves some headlines. If Sonya were not competing, Juliet would be the best female eater in the world. But being the second best female in the world, and a top 10 eater overall, is nothing to sneeze at! (She will certainly be ranked well within the top 10 when the new rankings come out.)

Additionally, I actually expect her to eat at least 2 dozen dogs in whatever qualifier she decides to go to. She might eat close to 30 on July 4th, assuming she wins a qualifier, and I’ve no doubt she will.

On Sonya, I agree with Gentleman Joe that she would probably gain more publicity and notoriety if she embraced a dark persona. Looking at the Nathan’s ESPN video from 2005, the Mastercard commercial, and her competitive spirit at the competitions, I’ve no doubt she could pull it off with flying colors. She is a natural in front of the camera! Her fan base would probably grow too.

Sonya, I hope you’re reading this sweetie! I hope the Coors, Heinz, and Net Flix folks are reading this too. (Though I don’t know if Sonya drinks. If she does, I bet she’d be / is a little hellion, though a sweet hellion, if she were to get plastered!)

I have to disagree. Juliet is really much better. She is avoiding Juliet right now, just like she dodges Gal Sone.

If Sonya and Juliet were independent eaters, Chapman, Gilbert, Menchetti, Coon Dog, Hickman, etc, etc, would absolutely mop the floor up with them. It would be a total slaughter house!

She is not going to hanging around here wasting her time because
she has family. Nice try Juliet. From now on , Sonya is only woman
here again. I am always your big fun.

I was coaching soccer that weekend so I had to miss. Last year I came in second to Humble Bob and really enjoyed the event. Speed eating is my favorite you high capacity guys can keep the long events.

It was really fun, and sorry you couldnt make it. It was speed eating right up to the 4th round when they brought out 3 deepdish personal pizzas apiece with no time-limit. The chef said they were 2lbs apiece and made special for us. I hit my limit at the end of the second one.

There are several anonymous that do not care for your comments .I just happen to be one of them. By responding back to every single negative comment posted about you on this site just proves my point all along about how immature you are. A class act would have just ignored it and moved on.

  38. KevinRoss said

Oh please. You wouldn’t post anything about me if you didn’t want me to reply. I don’t think I need to point out how hypocritical it is to call ME immature – oops, I just did. Actually I’m psyched if there is a whole bunch of anonymouses that have banded together to make snide comments towards me. That’s a whole lot better (and more entertaining) than just being ignored/invisible. Hopefully you all get together in the core of some volcano lair to plot against me. That would rule.

Zoolander: I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.
