Bob Shoudt wins Hooters Mesquite qualifier

update May 2 DallasObserver.com has a slideshow (starting at picture #9)

update May 1 Someone claiming to be Gary Klucken has posted the following on the MLE facebook

As a competitor in mesquite, texas the true results were: Eric;B.O.B.;Nasty Nate;Gary K.;Bam Bam.

update Apr 29 Erik Denmark posted a picture of the score sheet which listed weights. Apparently the individual trays were not weighed before the contest. The original weight was assumed to be 20 multiplied by the average weight of a wing.

update SCNTX.com has an article (via HootersTexas)

The top 3 in today’s Hooters qualfier in Mesquite, TX:
1) Bob Shoudt 120 wings
2) Erik Denmark 117 wings
3) Nate Biller 100 wings. (It is rather strange that weights are not being announced for a contest that is based on mass consumed and not wing count.)

Hooters not happy with MLE weight totals making them look bad. Hooters wings a bad value for customers this has been verified by the professional eating organization MLE when they announced over 100 Hooters wings = 1 lb. of food.

One week its total wings another week its weight? We know MLE announces weights in fact recently used this method to change finishing orders. We are still “weighting” for the totals of Sonya’s 148 wing 1st place finish a few weeks ago. Anybody have that elusive number bet it’s even less than the 128 equals 1 lb. embarrassment? Maybe the Hooters 128 wing equals lb. of delicious Hooters wings is bad advertising for the place known for its wings. Hooters should run commercial using MLE facts about its wing weights “We are proud to announce Hooters 6 wings baskets have a whopping 0.75 oz. (3/4 of an ounce) of meat, yes that is correct folk’s even pro eaters can only get 3/4 of an oz. food for every 6 H00ters wings. Amazing numbers… no?
That’s probably why Hooters does not have a nutritional chart of any kind available.
MLE has made the Hooters wing competition a farce on a cartoonish level and should not be considered anything but entertainment, very much equal to the reality of pro wrestling.

There is nothing written to indicate that Hooters is unhappy with the contests. People really do not pay the kind of attention paid on here to the competitions. This is a very small sample of followers of competitive eating. For most people, one eater is much like another, MLE, independents, etc. except that MLE is really international and gets the cream of publicity. That’s just a fact. It doesn’t mean that the eaters themselves reap those benefits, but they certainly get more than other organizations.

Here’s a fact.Every state has different weights per case. Some states get bigger wings.Thats why numbers are different.

If some people spent as much time taking care of their own business, as they do slicing, dicing, dissecting, analyzing, and criticizing things beyond them, they would be much better off.

Gosh you APE/WLOCE have no clue when it comes to publicity. Which is the only reason why real organizations like MLE and Hooters do eating contests. They’re basically ads for the eateries. The reason why Hooters focus on the number of Wings is unlike APE/WLOCE, Hooters and MLE can draw national attention outside of the insular competitive eating community. And, the general public is more interested in the number of wings eaten in their promotional materials than the amount of weight eaten. Weight amount of wings is inside baseball of the eating community, the number of wings has general public interest. If a reporter wants to report the weight of wings eaten seven or eight graphs down in their story, they can do the simple math required. Oh, by the way the APE/WLOCE guy demanding that MLE post the weight of the Augusta qualifier when in fact MLE had posted the weight a long time ago was hilarious. Nothing could of been truer said, what a APE/WLOCE dumbass.

No wonder the weights are screwy. In Denmark’s picture, the instructions for column six says Column 5 minus Column 4. It should be the OTHER WAY AROUND – Column 4 (TOTAL WEIGHT) minus Column 5 (DEBRIS WEIGHT)!!!! Otherwise, you end up with a negative number!

Anony 1:14 — Fascinating stuff. However have you considered? The preceding definition of multiplication of general complex numbers follows naturally from this fundamental property of the imaginary unit. Indeed, if i is treated as a number so that di means d times i, the above multiplication rule is identical to the usual rule for multiplying two sums of two terms. (distributive law) (commutative law of addition—the order of the summands can be changed) (commutative law of multiplication—the order of the multiplicands can be changed) (fundamental property of the imaginary unit). Therefore if Anony 1:14 is substituted for d as in dumbass, and Anony 1:14’s posting is substituted for w as for who gives a shit, d + w = it’s an eating competition, get a life you loser.

Anony 12:37, 11:14 — That’s quite a life you have there, spending the last three weeks examining a photo of an eating contest calculation sheet off of Erik Denmark’s cell phone all in an effort to show everyone your incredible Mathletes skills. Man those of the oposite sex must lined up outside your mom’s basement just to party with you. Slow down there buddy, that fast lane life you’re living is going to get you in trouble. Man when you came up that debris weight calculation error theory — wow, HOT! HOT! HOT!

Denmark is not happy and is trying to prove that he won that contest? Bob is not happy and trying to prove that he won a different contest? Photos, insults, disrespect, it would seem that competitive eaters are not professionals at all and not even realistic. In professional sports the referee decisions are final. Almost everything written here in this season of CE is just a bunch of mud-slinging, and it isn’t even entertaining or interesting.

Anony 3:27 — Actually Denmark’s not a complainer, I would suspect any criticism is coming from APE/WLOCE people jealous that they can only get contests with the visibility or prize money of a Chicken Salad Sandwich Contest in Ascratch, N.Y., or a Sabarro’s pizza contest in Ebola, India. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Denmark competes somewhere else and gets a spot at Hooters. Now, some people around Bob may have complained about events in the past, but that was years ago and I think Bob put a quash to that kind of behavior. Once again, any complaints regarding any of the outcomes usually come from outsiders full of envy for their crappy organizations never being able to get the talent level in eaters, prize money, sponsorships, fees, benefits, that MLE can garner. Sure, some complaints come from some very low ranked eaters with no hope of being a top eater inside the MLE, and are jock sniffing the top eaters thinking they’re helping. But what those table ender MLE eaters are too stupid to know is that MLE does not reward public displays of dissension and they’re actually hurting a top eater when they complain publically. It’s best to resolve any conflict behind the scenes and the top eaters know that. Also, excellent point, the refs decide the outcomes.

The perfect example of a “very low ranked eaters with no hope of being a top eater inside the MLE, and are jock sniffing the top eaters thinking they’re helping. But what those table ender MLE eaters are too stupid to know is that MLE does not reward public displays of dissension and they’re actually hurting a top eater when they complain publically.” MLE Number 32 ranked Gary Klucken when he said the eating outcome was not accurate on Facebook. Gary, if you’ve got a problem, particularly since it’s none of your business because you will never be in the top three at any contests, why don’t you call or email MLE directly. But, don’t worry Gary, Eric’s a big boy and he can take care of himself and I’m sure Eric would talk to MLE if had a problem. Yet, I wouldn’t expect to see Gary at too many more MLE events with that kind of attitude, eager to create trouble on things you know nothing about, and no basic sense.
