Eric “Badlands” Booker wins Buffalo Wing contest
In a shocking upset, Eric “Badlands” Booker won the Buffalo Wing contest at the Buffalo Wing Festival Saturday. His total of 137 wings beat Sonya Thomas’ total by ten wings. This is Sonya Thomas first loss to an eater besides Kobayashi since the Philadelphia Wing Bowl in early February, a period of about seven months. There is apparently no controversy about the Buffalo result which could not be claimed for the Wing Bowl. The upset is especially suprising given that Sonya almost ate twice as many lobsters as Booker in the Maine lobster contest in August. Sonya will have the chance to resume her non-Kobayashi winning streak when she competes in the Atlanta Waffle House contest on Sunday and the Chattanooga Krystal qualifier on Labor Day. Cookie Jarvis was 3rd and Bob Shoudt placed 4th.

Several eaters have complained that the buffalo wing contest and buffet bowl platters could have been rigged meaning that a set amount of poundage might have been set up for certain eaters. The buffet bowl was supposed to be 10lb trays for each eater. Each tray should have been weighed(displaying 10lbs) in front of each eater before the contest and they werent thus leading to controversy and speculation. Of course the excuse would have been made that the scales only register maximimun 4lbs. This is 2005 you mean to tell me they cant splurge and upgrade for a couple of 10lb scales? My advice is in the future never enter a contest where there is a set amount of poundage in a tray and the people running the show wont let you see ther weight on a scale before the contest starts.

I was there. I did not hear about any of this stuff. Noone said a word to me. If we started with 10 pounds and the scales could only weigh up to 4 pounds, then how did they weigh the food for the eaters that ate less then 6 pounds of food?
No the trays were not weighed in front of us before the contest. I never would have guessed that they would have been different amounts. The trays were on the table before I got there. When I was called up, I could have gotten almost any of those trays I wanted as I was allowed to sit wherever I wanted.
This is crazy. What are we going to do next, weigh each plate of 5 hotdogs to see if they are not only the same in number, but the same weight as well?

Ill tell you why. Because one of the eaters final total was 4.85 and the person in charge of weighing before the total was given, remarked “this tray is way too heavy we have to weigh the remains in two separate trays. What does that lead you to believe? That tray could have been 11 or 12 lbs? Maybe the contest wasnt rigged but you can bet some of those trays were not exactly 10lbs. As far as hot dogs burgers etc i dont think we have to go to the extreme of weighing those but a contest involving a poundage tray should always be weighed in front of the eater before contest time. If they dont want to take the time out for a mere few seconds then you shouldnt enter a contest of that nature.
