It’s nice for the author to take the time to do that. I do have to say, however, that as much as I like Sonya, she was not the first woman do make an impact on CE. Takako Akasaka and Carlene LeFevre were both at the Nathan’s finals before Sonya. It’s just that Sonya’s impact was had a louder thud.

I have to give lots of kudos to Juliet too. If she had come onto the competitive eating scene a few years earlier, she would have gotten much more recognition. People probably don’t realize how talented she is.

Humble Bob set cheesesteak eating record at Jims in Philly. Not sanctioned by the feds.

I think Sonya & Carlene both debuted at the Nathan’s finals in 2003, but I have never been able to find a full 2002 finalist list.

I’m glad to see that K Thor has kept writing. It appears most of the site is about Philly Sports, so I look forward to his coverage of Wing Bowl this year. Lots of local CE talent to get real interviews with: Humble Bob, Wing Kong, Steakbellie, Russ Keeler, US Male, Wild Bill, Rick the Manager, Sean Gordon, Jeff Olson, Wolfson, Sticky Pete, Big Brian Paul Sardacles (sp), and more maybe even check in with El Wingador.

    The future is bright.
