Pat Bertoletti reports that Joey Chestnut has offered to bet him $10,000 that he will not come within 10 hot dogs at the Nathan's finals. The gap last year was 9 HDB, but that is the only year the difference has been in single digits. Here are the differences between their totals at Surf & Stillwell on July 4. Crazy legs Conti will be wearing industrial gloves and I will bet he will come within single digits of Chestnut.

That’s one thing about Joey. If he did not know beyond a shadow of a doubt that what he’s saying is true, he would not be saying it. The man is stating what he knows as fact, and he will back it up. Pat would be very foolish to even bet $1,000 to Joey’s $10K.

Smart move by Joey to create some competition to push himself a little harder. looking at the numbers it is possible, even a win for Pat ,,,but Pat has to be at his best and Joey has to have an “off” day for Pat to win,,,, anything is possible, if I were Pat I’d take the bet.

I firmly believe Joey can break the 70-HDB barrier. I can’t see Pat doing more than 56.

Reflecting back on what I just said, it’s astonishing, the number of HDBs most eaters are putting down now at the Finals, as compared to a decade and change ago.

as historical trends go both are looking at lower numbers —Pat high 30’s o low 40’s /// Joey high 50’s to low 60’s

joe if you’re encouraging Pat to take the bet, yet the differential by historical trends, as you put it, is around 20 hot dogs, either you have it in for Pat or you mis-wrote.

Pat has done enough stupid stunts where eating is involved. Why should he turn down something as dumb as this ?

Don’t have it in for Pat, I like Pat. We share a love for culinary and comp eating. I’m just stating – A) good move by Joey to drum up some competition, B) Pat has beaten Joey numerous times and stats say Joey is due a lower # but so is Pat. Can Pat break his trend?, I dunno. Odds are Joey would win, personally I would put money on Pat
