It doesn’t matter where they have them. The contest gets a couple of new faces in it a year but all the rest of the competitors are the same. You can’t eat if you don’t sign. I heard a independent eater tried to qualify but was denied because they said they were full. Yet there was an open spot. The IFOCE brings in there eaters they want to qualify and thats it. I think this independent eater had a chance and he probably would have signed. But was denied. Nathans lost some popularity over the last couple of yrs. This year will be the same. Joey in the middle flanked by Eater X on one side and Pat Bertoletti on the other. It will be close for 3 minutes or so then Joey will pull away and coast. The Shea brothers need to quit being selfish and let other people qualify. Last but not least I tried to qualify last year but was turned down because they were full. But two days later I registered a co-worker and he got approved. What a joke. After all all the independent eaters are jokes according to the IFOCE right????
LOL!!!!! If so let them qualify the IFOCE has nothing to lose.

Randy, qualifiers were held there at a Sam’s Club. Sam’s sells and servers Nathan’s dogs.

I was just asking because there is not really any interest around here. The closest people to me that are interested in food challenges & eating contests are over 2.5 hours away. I am sure they had to ship somebody over to win it.

FYI ever since starting, I have never had any plans of joining IFOCE. I am trying to explore other opportunities that nobody has attempted before. A qualifier would definitely be fun to watch though!

Anony 9:30 — Interest is waning? Last year ESPN had the most viewers ever and they’ve signed a contract to cover the event until 2017? By the way, why would you want to qualify for an event you feel has been played? Sounds like I’m detecting a little sour grapes here. I would hope MLE does a quick search of the names submitted, contests attended, and statements people may have made in the past. If MLE and Nathan’s doesn’t like your attitude and profile why would they want you to be part of this yearly American-loved tradition. Sounds like MLE didn’t want you for a number of factors, attitude may have been one of them. The MLE has every right to deny future troublemakers. If you qualified it sounds like you would be complaining the entire time. Part of the problem with Kobi was his attitude as he tried to make the event all about him, and could care less about the sponsor or those who brought them to the national stage. Without a contract, he’d likely be eating Hebrew National hot dogs the next day for Guiness World Records.

ID – you are so misinformed or oblivious as to how important Kobayashi was to Nathans, Coney Island and the IFOCE. Look at how big the 4th of July contest got when he came along. You have to give him his props for putting competitive eating on the map the way he did. Kobi never makes it about him and he certainly does not have an attitude. You don’t know the guy if you think he’s about attitiude. So what, he didn’t want to sign the Shea’s contract/agreement. This is America and we have the freedom to make our own choices.

(IDsaid) I’m not complaining at all. I just think I can finish in the middle. My whole point is that they only want there people in it. I think they send their eaters to certain qualifiers so they can qualify. I feel the contest can be more interesting if you had some new faces in it. I don’t have attitude. It might have came across that way. There are some good independent eaters out there, let them try to qualify. Nathans is the best contest by far. The whole IFOCE vs AICE, ALL PRO, WLOCE is stupid. It’s the people running these organizations that are ruining it for the eaters. The eaters put on the show but a good mc helps also.
