Competitive Eaters diagnosed with cancer
- Balinda Gould ate 42.5 chili dogs in four hours at the Rockford Corner Bar in 2005 to break a 23 year old record and claim a $500 prize. In 2011, she passed away from cancer at the age of 46. (As far as I know, the chili dog record was the only eating contest or challenge she attempted.)
- “Furious” Pete Czewinski Diagnosed with cancer in 2014, requiring the removal of a testicle. Unfortunately that did not stop the spread of the cancer, resulting in radiation therapy in 2015.
- Ed “Cookie” Jarvis Diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2010 He has had 11 tumors removed (some non-cancerous) according to a July 2012 Deadspin article.
- Curtis Sliwa the Guardian Angels founder and 1994 Nathan’s 3rd place finisher was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in 2011.

Truly a wake up call for all of competitive eating. Imagine if some of the top eaters in the IFOCE walked away from the sport after a scare of this magnitude? I could hear the Sheas now. “What are they doing ? Everyone is leaving ? God damn those damn press releases” I have a business to run”

I doubt we will be viewing reruns of Gutbusters, Glutton bowl, Battle of the Buffets and those other super hit television specials of the early 2000’s anytime soon

We have yet to hear from Rhonda Evans and her living in denial theory as to how it’s virtually impossible to get cancer from competitive eating

“..she passed away from cancer at the age of 2006.”
If she lived to be 2006 years old, she must have been doing something right.

Other comp eaters have passed away from cancer but they never made it public or left the public eye One in particular is Seaver Miller if anyone remembers him. He was a firefighter who competed in a civil service contest

The only health foods they used in contests were asparagus watermelon and grapes but asparagus was fried so what’s the point?
