Funny how you make OJ Rifkin out to be some sort of saint when he turns around and promotes someone who is a detriment to the sport

It seems to me that OJ objectively announces all stories related to competitive eating, which is as it should be. Screening stories and people and basing a decision on whether or not to list it is biased. OJ’s objectivity is one of the things that attracts me to this site. If I don’t want to read certain articles I can decide for myself.

Also, regardless of what anyone thinks about Dale or his reputation as a competitive eater, he IS a competitve eater, who’s better than 2/3 of his peers, and people appreciate the controversy he brings to the sport. Even if people vehemently dislike Dale, his practices, his personality, etc. (as most do), many enjoy having someone like him to vehemently express their most powerful negative feelings toward. Doing so is almost therapeutic. It’s like a catharsis—-a grand release of emotion.

Dale reminds me a little bit of Richie Allen. I dont know if you back that far but he was a power hitting outfielder for the Phila Phillies and Whitesox . He led the league and team in homeruns and won MVP in the mid to late 60’s and early 70’s .His talent was immensely overshadowed by his combative nature and his constant battles with his manager and the front office.

Agreeing with Rhonda about the site being for all of competitive eating without bias, there is also a seemingly new and somewhat unbiased component. This is interesting, giving some (perceived) insight into the person behind OJR. Examples would be things like parenthetical comments, do not expect Brad S. to show up and the consistent pointing out of media errors as well as comparing eaters statistically. He is a stickler for accuracy though that is rather impossible if you think about it.

Media about competitive eating is, by its very nature, prone to (mis)judgments and lack of fact checking. Full results are not reported, there are confidentiality agreements for future televised programs, participants are not supposed to report results. But in this era of Facebook and all kinds of access to information, that is difficult to do. OJR is a sleuth, sometimes that is positive, sometimes not. He leans toward numbers. Sponsors and organizations want publicity, good positive publicity. So many of the comments on here support no one in a positive way.

But overall, we are not talking about the UN here and treaties between nations. This is entertainment and the main purpose is product marketing. Yes, sometimes there are charity components but basically people have products to sell and promote, the contests support that.

You are very wrong Rhonda. OJ does not objectively announce all stories related to competitive eating. He picks and chooses who he wants to promote in a biased way. If someone like a Matt Stonie uploaded a video of something as trivial as walking into a Nathans restaurant and ordering a hot dog , OJ would be all over it. if someone like Brian Seiken posted the same type of video which he did, its ignored.. It wasnt like that 4 or 5yrs ago. Only because Seiken name has been reduced to a joke thanks to the anonymous haters that flock this site 24/7

But the accomplishments of dale boone this day and age are so miniscule that reporting on them obviously shows favoritism toward him. He never competes against any real competition, seeks out the most obscure contests to compete and, and puts up numbers that are suspect at best. He fears eaters that can and will beat him and avoid them when possible. Pretty sad.

BB has chosen the role of victim and he, unfortunately, plays it quite well. A full hour hasn’t elapsed and already BB is being compared / comparing himself to a world class eater in Matt Stonie, and OJ’s perceived partiality to cover news regarding the world class eater over BB. (No need to get mad at Matt, either; you brought it up.)

This is beside the point, but it is a point, nonetheless. OJ does not take pot shots at BB, which makes the latter appear unprofessional, at best. On occasion, OJ DOES reference Seiken’s site, and when he does, he does not put a negative spin on it. He leaves interpretation to the reader. BB, however, bathes in negativity, and never relents going after eatfeats and its Webmaster in a very mean-spirited tone.

This has been explained here so many times that I’m convinced Seiken will not change, but he opened this new can of worms, so let’s let them roam.

BB has the capability to be very professional and very heartening for and considerate of many lesser known eaters. That’s really the side of BB I want to see more of. BB’s niche is putting his “spin” on things. I actually like his humor, and occasional negativity, if it’s done in a not-too-tasteless way.

Though he has no reason to be jealous, his mean-spirited tone and antics are directly proportional to his jealousy of OJ and this site—-to the point that his jealousy consumes him. Until BB becomes honest with himself and faces that fact, he will continue to wallow in his negative emotions, which do nothing but destroy. That’s the wrong path. Anyone who cares about BB knows I am right, but they won’t agree with me in public out of caring for him. Well, I’ve tried that tactic too—-doesn’t work.

BB is absolutely his own worst enemy. He is jealous not only of eatfeats but of so many many eaters. Why even bother to take on Gavonne, that only leads to trouble or at least do it privately. When he wonders why he does not get invited to events and get media opportunities he does not seem to see any connection to his negative behavior and not being invited. So he lashes out. Rhonda says it all, it doesn’t seem to matter if we try to give him positive reinforcement or point out why he is not getting what he wants, his behavior doesn’t change. For someone who really seeks attention and wants the positive for all he thinks he has given, it is pretty blind that he doesn’t seem to learn anything from his behaviors after all these years.
